Jago?

Thanks to [name]Elea[/name]'s lovely blog about Cornish names, we have added [name]Jago[/name] to our list of favorite boys names. Most of you know I have two daughters [name]Mia[/name] & [name]Kira[/name] and I’m wondering if you thought [name]Jago[/name] fit in the mix (not a high priority for me with boys names though).

This name has a slight family connection since [name]Jago[/name] is a form of [name]James[/name]. [name]James[/name] was my grandfathers middle name. [name]James[/name] is sort of off limits because my sisters dad (we have different dads) passed away and [name]James[/name] was his first name. I always figured one of his daughters would want to use [name]James[/name] one day.

Right now we like [name]Jago[/name] [name]Madsen[/name] ([name]Madsen[/name] like the surname, think of the actors [name]Michael[/name] & [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Madsen[/name])

My questions-

  1. [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Jago[/name]?
  2. Does it “fit” with [name]Mia[/name] & [name]Kira[/name]?
  3. What middle name(s) do you like with [name]Jago[/name]?

Thanks in advance, you’re great!

Let’s see…

  1. [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Jago[/name]?
I really like it! I’m a bit confused about pronunciation though. Is the ‘J’ said like a ‘Y’? Is the first syllable long like ‘ay’ or short so it runs into the ‘g’ like ‘ag-O’? Also, it kind of reminds me of [name]Jagger[/name], as in [name]Mick[/name] [name]Jagger[/name].

  2. Does it “fit” with [name]Mia[/name] & [name]Kira[/name]?
Yes, in my opinion it does. It’s short, two syllables and cool:) I think they make a good sib-set!

  3. What middle name(s) do you like with [name]Jago[/name]?
I think to answer this question properly I would need to be informed of the correct pronunciation of [name]Jago[/name] but I can do a rough list for you.
    [name]Jago[/name] [name]Dominic[/name]
    [name]Jago[/name] [name]Michael[/name]
    [name]Jago[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]
    [name]Jago[/name] [name]Ezekiel[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] I can help more soon! Good [name]Luck[/name] Disa:)

[name]EDIT[/name]: Oh, I forgot to add, I love [name]Jago[/name] [name]Madsen[/name] too!

Thanks [name]Charlie[/name]
As far as I know it’s pronounced like jaygo. If I’m wrong someone please correct me, it might change our opinion of the name.

That’s how I was saying it. Only now, I say it with a ‘Y’ and I’ve just looked it up and found it it is a Spanish and Cornish variation and I know that the Spanish pronounce some 'J’s as 'H’s so it might be Haygo or Yaygo but here’s hoping it’s Jaygo. Some other combo’s going on the ‘Jaygo’ theory:

[name]Jago[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Gavin[/name] (sorry, couldn’t resist. It’s after someone special)
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Dominic[/name] (love this one!)
[name]Jago[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Robert[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] Warwick
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Tobias[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you like any of these?

[name]Love[/name], love [name]Jago[/name] - its on my list - not sure i can get hubs on board though!

I think it fits with your girls name and i’m thinking that it needs to have a 1 syllable-d name like, [name]Luke[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]John[/name] for traditional feel or [name]Dash[/name], [name]Taj[/name] or [name]Zen[/name] if you’re a bit more quirky!

[name]Jago[/name] [name]George[/name] - thats my vote!

I love love love love love love love love love love love [name]Jago[/name]!!!

Seriously, I love it almost as much as I love [name]William[/name], [name]Rhys[/name] and Macsen (which is a lot). I would love to use [name]Jago[/name] as a first name – but when I have my ‘matchy head’ on I have [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Jago[/name] as a top combo on my list.

It’s cool, edgy, fresh, and yet traditional at the same time, so it ticks most boxes in my opinion.

I think it goes really well with [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name]. It has the same crisp sound and shares an exotic-traditional style that [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name] have.

[name]Jago[/name] [name]Madsen[/name] looks nice but I keep tripping over that ‘s’. I think [name]Jago[/name] [name]Madden[/name] or [name]Jago[/name] [name]Madoc[/name] would flow a bit better

[name]Jago[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Finnian[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Maximilian[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name]

(For those who are wondering, the Cornish pronounce their Js like we do – so it’s [name]JAY[/name]-go)

Thank you ladies  It doesn’t really bother me if my boys names match my daughters. Since [name]Jago[/name] is new to me I just wanted to make sure he wouldn’t be the odd one out. Thanks for the vote approval

There are so many middle names I like with [name]Jago[/name] that DH does not.
I really like [name]Jago[/name] [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Jago[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Jago[/name] [name]Madden[/name] (he thinks of the football coach, we don’t watch sports). Why are men so difficult???
Combos I like that he doesn’t -

[name]Jago[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Preston[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Harden[/name]

I think a one syllable middle name would also really work. Of course once again the ones that I like he does not.
Some one syllable mn’s I like with [name]Jago[/name] that aren’t DH approved are -

[name]Jago[/name] [name]Frost[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Ross[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Burke[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] Kline
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Dash[/name]
[name]Jago[/name] [name]Pierce[/name]

Another site says [name]Jago[/name] is a form of [name]Jacob[/name] FYI. [name]James[/name] is also derived from [name]Jacob[/name], Iakobos > Iacomos in Latin. I don’t know if this has any bearing on your decision though.

As for my opinion - I [name]LOVE[/name] it. Boys names are so hard for me to like as far as consider. I find most of them ok, but not love, especially with the unusual names - my boy name tastes are so boring! With your [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name], [name]Jago[/name] is definitely a very cool name. I would put this on my own list now, liven it up a bit.

[name]Love[/name] the name! Goes perfectly with the girls and is a name you don’t hear everyday. In regards to middle names, I really like the whole- same first letter thing, like [name]Jago[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] or [name]Jago[/name] [name]Jasper[/name], but the name you chose is beautiful!
