James, just James

[name_u]James[/name_u]. I see it constantly as a middle name nowadays…like the girl version of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but how many little boys do you know who go by [name_u]James[/name_u], just [name_u]James[/name_u]? I personally have never met a [name_u]James[/name_u] under age 20, but maybe it is just my bubble of friends? What are your thoughts on [name_u]James[/name_u]? Is it boring next to S@muel, [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_u]Georgi[/name_u]@ (our other kids)? These are my ideas on middle names, feel free to add more:

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]

I love [name_u]James[/name_u]! Strong and handsome. From your list I favor [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u], but I might go for something more distinctive in the middle…[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Cabot[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] Gauvain (variation of Arthurian knight [name_m]Gawain[/name_m] in its transition to [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]).

I like the name. I don’t think it’s super common nowadays but certainly it’s a classic name and very usable as a first name. [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] as brothers? The names go very well together. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are slightly more adventurous for the girls but they fit together fine.

I think [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] as a nice flow but [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is so popular where I live that I wouldn’t use it (I know 6 [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s under the age of 7). I would go with [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. Classic yes but a little more distinctive. Would help match it even more with his sisters. I also like. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. None of your choices are bad though!

I love the name [name_u]James[/name_u]. I know of a million [name_m]Jim[/name_m]/[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m]/[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]/etc., which has unfortunately turned me off to using it. I also know a 10 year old boy and a 27 year old young man who go by [name_u]James[/name_u], and they are both handsome guys who wear it so well.

Great name!

I know tons and tons of little Jameses. A lot of them go by [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] (shudder) locally though.

It’s less popular nationally (here in [name_m]Oz[/name_m]) than [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but more than [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. I think in both [name_m]Oz[/name_m] and the US it’s far more popular on little boys than [name_m]John[/name_m]/[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], which I prefer but have a rep as really plain.

It’s fine and inoffensive with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] but I think a name that’s either totally non-Biblical like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], or [name_u]August[/name_u], or matches [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] as far as not [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], etc. would go better.

There’s no way I’d consider [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] when [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is such a huge free-floating annoyance.

A close friend of mine had a baby, [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], in [name_u]March[/name_u]. He’s adorable, and they’re adamant about calling him [name_u]James[/name_u] instead of [name_m]Jim[/name_m], [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], or [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] I think it’s very wearable.

Oh, I didn’t mean to suggest it’s not wearable. It’s very wearable.

It’s pleasant.

Good point on [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]…i can’t believe I didn’t see that one! Funny thing about popularity, I know several Levis, Judahs, Ethans, Jacobs and Isaacs…old testament names are very popular where I am and though I like many of them, [name_u]James[/name_u] might be “different” in my circles. I cant believe it’s so high on the charts!
Maybe [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] would be a good match.

I adore [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think it goes perfectly with your kids’ names as well. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are my favorites from your list.

Despite its popularity I like [name_u]James[/name_u] and I think it’s a very good fit with your other children’s names. My suggestions for middles are:

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Caledon[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]

I love [name_u]James[/name_u] and wish it wasn’t so high on the charts. I don’t personally know any babies named [name_u]James[/name_u], though; I know loads of Jimmys and Jims starting at around age 20, but the only guy I know who goes exclusively by [name_u]James[/name_u] is in his early 30’s.

I want to pair [name_u]James[/name_u] with long, distinctive middles to set it off. My favorite so far (see my sig) is [name_u]James[/name_u] Deliverance.

I only know one [name_u]James[/name_u] and two male [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s, to me [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_u]James[/name_u] are all very safe and common there top 100 here, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is a little less usual but they all work together for me.

I love [name_u]James[/name_u] and hope to use it in the future! I am not a fan of any common [name_u]James[/name_u] nicknames.

I have always loved [name_u]James[/name_u] but I don’t think I would use it as a first name because it’s my cousin’s name. I know three [name_u]James[/name_u] under 20, Two are sixteen and the other is three.

Mrs.darling…oooh I love [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Archer[/name_m]! Very strong and handsome! Thanks!

I know of 4 boys named [name_u]James[/name_u]. All the sons of my coworkers. Two are under 6 months old. The others are about 4 years old and 6 years old. I think the 6 year old occasionally goes by [name_u]Jamie[/name_u].

From your list, my favorites would be [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u], & [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].

[name_u]James[/name_u] is totally wonderful!

[name_u]James[/name_u] is one of my favorites. I know of three around the age of 15, and they all go by [name_u]James[/name_u].
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is my favorite from your list.

[name_u]James[/name_u] is my brother’s name. He’s in his thirties, but has always been known as [name_u]James[/name_u], not [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]/[name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] etc… I think it’s a good, strong, traditional name. I go back and forth about whether I would personally use it (my brother is not the best namesake!), but if you love it, go for it! x

I know 3 [name_u]James[/name_u], none go by [name_u]James[/name_u]. One [name_m]Jim[/name_m], one [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], and one totally unrelated nickname
