Jameson or David?

After many many years of trying to conceive, and collecting beloved names, I am finally pregnant, and expecting a boy via C-section in 10 days!

Our top contenders are [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (my pick) or [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] (my husbands pick). Our wild card name is [name_u]Blaze[/name_u], but it’s unlikely that we will go with [name_u]Blaze[/name_u].

I LOVE [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is [name_u]James[/name_u] (Jim), and I like that the name means son of [name_u]James[/name_u]. We are both whiskey drinkers, so the nod to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] whiskey isn’t a deterrent for us. I am not to crazy about the nickname options, they are ok, but not as loved as the full name [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. (The middle name with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is likely going to be [name_u]Walter[/name_u], after both our late grandfathers and or [name_u]Robert[/name_u] after both our fathers).

The downfalls with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] are, there are 6 people in my husbands family with first names starting with ‘J’ and the same last name. Is it too many J names? Most definitely. But if I love it, I love it.
Not only that, but my husbands youngest nephew is [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] Waller K—- so almost the same as my top contender of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] [name_u]Walter[/name_u] k——.

Throughout my pregnancy, both my husband and I lost an uncle. His uncle [name_u]Leo[/name_u], my uncle [name_u]David[/name_u]. Both are names I am very fond of. [name_u]David[/name_u] has definitely been a top favourite of mine for years.
So enter the name [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] k—-. This name is definitely growing on my husband, as well as me. We love the nicknames [name_m]Davy[/name_m] and [name_m]Dave[/name_m], and we love the meaning of both names together, beloved lion. I also love that this name combo represents our recently deceased uncles, and would be extremely unexpected and sentimental to some of our relatives.

[name_u]Blaze[/name_u] is name that was following me around for sometime during my pregnancy. We both like it, but feel the kid will either be a really cool kid, or the complete opposite. Seems like a lot of pressure for a kid to be named [name_u]Blaze[/name_u]. The other downfall, is the name means to stutter or to lisp.

We are both passive personalities, and don’t want to push our top choice. We keep going in circles. “I like this name better, but if your heart is set on that name…”

I know when it comes time, based on popular opinion I will decide one way or the other (even if it’s going against the consensus), but the more impartial opinions, the better.

So what do you think?
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u]? [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Walter[/name_u]?
[name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u]?
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u]?
Don’t dismiss [name_u]Blaze[/name_u] yet?
Go back to the drawing board?

Other names I like, [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], Theo/Theodore.
Potential middles names, (all are family names), [name_u]Walter[/name_u], [name_u]Robert[/name_u], or [name_m]Morris[/name_m], Theo/Theodore/Fred (my grandfather was [name_m]Theodorus[/name_m] but solely went by Fred).

Thanks!

HUGE congratulations to you!

I think that [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] has more meaning to you and your SO. It would be a great fit.

[name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] would be a good sibset too!

I prefer [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], I love [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u]!

[name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] seems like the best fit both for meaning/sentiment and uniqueness amongst family members. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_m]Davy[/name_m] is also super adorable! [name_u]Blaze[/name_u] is not my style and I agree it could be a hard name to “live up to”… good luck!

I love the sound and feel and meaning of [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u]! I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] but in this case it make sense because he’s [name_u]James[/name_u] son :relaxed: I also think [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] or [name_u]Leo[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] are handsome!

Congratulations! How exciting you finally have your baby after all this time! We have been struggling with infertility as well and it’s a very difficult journey.

I love that you want to honor family members and are putting so much thought into this name. I really think you can’t go wrong with any of your options. [name_f]My[/name_f] least favorite is [name_u]Blaze[/name_u] just because there doesn’t seem to be as much history there. Maybe a name for a dog in the future?

How sold is your husband on [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]? You said [name_u]David[/name_u] was his pick, but you seem really passionate about [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. If he feels even slightly the way you do I say go with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. You had a lot of great points about why it fits. I think cousins and nephews and extended family members having similar names isn’t an issue. You’ll probably only ever use their first name and you won’t really see them that often. If you love the name, go for it!

huge congratulations !!

wow, this is certainly a dilemma !! but I think that jameson david leo is meaningful to you and not too close to another family member as well as incorporating the names that both you and your s/o love !!

Congratulations!!

[name_f]My[/name_f] quickest suggestion is to either drop [name_u]Blaze[/name_u] or else use it in the middle name spot. It does feel like a lot to live up to.

Personally I really like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. I wouldn’t mind that there are lots of J names in your family - at worst it could be interpreted as a tradition. As to nicknames, you may have considered this and aren’t crazy about it, but [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] seems sweet. [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] having such similar full names doesn’t seem ideal but you could also use [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Walter[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] or many permutations of these four names.

I can’t tell how you really feel about [name_u]David[/name_u] as a name - wanted to mention [name_u]Davis[/name_u] as an alternative in case that appeals to you. It’s less popular as a first name but easily recognizable (though I’m sure it would occasionally be mistaken for [name_u]David[/name_u] anyway).

I’m fond of Theodore/Theo too and really like it with a lot of your possible middles.

Not sure how useful this is but you have a great crop of names here! Maybe try saying just the first names (without the middle names) out loud with your surname and see if that weeds any out? (To me the first name/last name sound is important and a lot of the time people get really focused on the first and middle.)

I like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Blaze[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u]. And I like the nickname [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Jame[/name_m] even more

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

This is tricky! I like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] as a son for [name_u]James[/name_u], since that’s actually what it means. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] [name_u]Walter[/name_u] (so handsome!) is pretty close to [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] Walter…are you close w/Jayden’s family? I have nephews who are very close friends (first cousins) & in age called [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] & [name_m]Cillian[/name_m]. And it’s never been an issue, so maybe [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] & [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] will be okay. I like the nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u] for [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], but that’s close to [name_m]Jim[/name_m]. What about [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] nn Jass? [name_u]Or[/name_u] what about [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] nn J.D.? [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] nn [name_m]Jed[/name_m]? [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] Theodore/Theodorus nn Jet?!

All of this [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] talk aside, I love [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Leo[/name_u]. That’s just beautiful & warm & meaningful. And [name_u]David[/name_u] is technically more popular than [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], but I never actually hear it on kids in real life.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a random suggestion, do you like the name [name_u]Dawson[/name_u]? It means ‘son of David’. This babe won’t be a son of [name_u]David[/name_u], but still maybe a way to honor Uncle [name_u]David[/name_u].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
