Jander

I ran across the boy’s name Jander on a baby name site, but there was little info about the name except that it means “protector of mankind.” Nameberry does not have this name in its database. Has anyone else ever heard this name or have any info to share? Thanks.

Well, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] means ‘defender of men’. Maybe it’s a contracted form/foreign form of that? Like [name_m]Alejandro[/name_m].

Other than that, I can see it being an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] name.

It looks like a creative attempt at making [name_m]Xander[/name_m] into a Spanish name.

I know a little boy with this name! I do a service trip to an Aboriginal community every year and he is a boy who lives in the little mission.

The community does tend to use very creative names though, so I wouldn’t consider it as an indicator of popularity! I do find the name endearing though due to the association - and the meaning of the name makes it even better now

Thanks for the feedback. @sophiamargaret, so glad to hear someone actually has this name as it is adorable!

It reminds me of the word “gender”…

This was my first thought as well, though I agree with the previous poster who said it’s probably somehow related to [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

Given the meaning, I would assume it’s some variant on [name_m]Xander[/name_m].
