Jane - is it really that plain?

There is something I love about the name [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Short and sweet and I love the sound.
Nowadays it seems to have fallen out of popularity (it’s not even in the 2012 top 1000 in the UK) yet it’s still a name that people know - it’s also easy to say and spell.

I feel like the ‘plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f]’ connotation has disappeared with time, and I can really picture the name on a cute little girl.

Am I just being crazy, or do you think I could actually use this name without people thinking I was strange?

I know (I follow the blog of) a really stylish couple who recently had a daughter and named her [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Honestly, I don’t think it’s plain at all. There are quite a few classic girls’ names that I think sound much more “plain” than [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is totally ready for a revival. I actually don’t know anyone with the name, just a teenage girl named [name_f]Janie[/name_f]-[name_u]Day[/name_u], which I also think is super cute. Especially with a stunning middle, I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] could be gorgeous. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] comes to mind. [name_u]Love[/name_u] that.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is gorgeous!

I think I can picture it on kids because when I was a little girl, I was a bridesmaid in a wedding with a girl named [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and I’ve always liked it.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

[name_f]My[/name_f] sisters bff is called jane and she is anything but plain, shes so outgoing, funky and cool so [name_f]Jane[/name_f] doesn’t seem plain to me at all

I also love the sweet elegant [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

After all the bizarre variations of this lovely name – such as [name_f]Zhane[/name_f], Jhane, [name_f]Janessa[/name_f], [name_f]Jenessa[/name_f], [name_f]Janetta[/name_f], [name_f]Janina[/name_f], etc ad nauseam – I think we are all more than ready for simple and elegant names.

Go for it.

I posted about this over the summer and came to the conclusion that [name_f]Jane[/name_f] isn’t plain anymore because it isn’t as popular as it used to be (along with so many other names that were widely popular). [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is beautiful. It is sweet, sophisticated. It is uncommon, without being unfamiliar. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has so much history, so many different literary connections. I just love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is easy to spell and pronounce, it can be youthful and mature. You can’t go wrong with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Right now, I’m loving the combo [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is lovely!
There’s really not much else to say about it. Underappreciated gem! ^^

I think it’s a gorgeous name, not plain in the slightest.

I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]- classic, versatile.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is here to stay and she is anything but plain, she has style, pizzazz and charm. 10/10 for [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I wouldn’t classify [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as plain. I would call is simple, but sweet. I don’t think anyone would think you were strange for using. With it being more commonly a filler middle name, I think it would be a pleasant surprise as a first name.
