We are having our second child in [name]March[/name] - a boy - and we’ve narrowed the names down to [name]Jasper[/name] or [name]Leo[/name]. We both also love [name]Felix[/name], but know of two within our extended circle of friends so we’ve kind of ruled it out.
My question is, does [name]Jasper[/name] sound too close to our daughter’s name, [name]Saskia[/name]? For me, there’s something about the Sas and [name]Jas[/name] sound at the start and ending in the “a” sound that makes them a little too samey samey? And with nicknames, we call her Sass or Sassy, and I’m thinking [name]Jasper[/name] is going to get [name]Jas[/name]/[name]Jaz[/name] or [name]Jazzy[/name].
I love [name]Leo[/name]! [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] sound really great together!
I don’t think you are over thinking the Sas, [name]Jas[/name], Sassy, Jassy thing! It’s exactly what I would do! It would worry me and might put me off using a name but in the end if I really loved a name I would still use it
[name]Leo[/name] is lovely, and it goes really nicely with [name]Saskia[/name] c:
[name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Saskia[/name] do sound a bit samey but I don’t think it’s so much so you should be too concerned about it! Personally, [name]Leo[/name] gets my vote over [name]Jasper[/name], but don’t be discouraged from [name]Jasper[/name] if your only concern is the nicknames c: Does this even make sense? egh, Fridays. I love [name]Jasper[/name], and [name]Leo[/name] is verging towards overuse these days (at least where I live/ in my circle, but it might not be true for you). So I came here to say [name]Jasper[/name], then saw the [name]Saskia[/name] thing - bother!! I think I’d stay away from [name]Jasper[/name] with [name]Saskia[/name], myself.
That said, [name]Saskia[/name] is an awesome name too!
I think they are both great names! For me [name]Leo[/name] goes a little better with [name]Saskia[/name], only because of the similar nicknames of Sas and [name]Jas[/name].
I know what you mean. I have [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name]… I don’t like Jass/[name]Jazz[/name] nn so I call him [name]Jack[/name] or Jaspy for nn instead. It could work with [name]Saskia[/name]. I do however love [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Leo[/name].
[name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] are perfect together! They sound much better than [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] in my opinion, and I also prefer [name]Leo[/name] overall. So my vote is definitely for [name]Leo[/name]!
I love [name]Leo[/name]. [name]Both[/name] independently and with [name]Saskia[/name]. I find it a much stronger name than [name]Jasper[/name].

Especially since you’d use a nn that’s would possibly be too close to [name]Saskia[/name]'s. [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Saskia[/name], by the way!!
Thanks everyone. I’ve also been a little worried about the growing popularity of [name]Leo[/name]. It was number 67 for boys in 2011 (I’m in Australia), while [name]Jasper[/name] was at number 80. [name]Leo[/name] is such a great short, strong name, I’m wondering if it might be the next ‘[name]Ava[/name]’, which is hugely popular here for girls.
Loving all 3 names Prefer [name]Jasper[/name] over the more common & less interesting [name]Leo[/name]. The similar sound with [name]Saskia[/name] made me pause for a minute, but I have a feeling most (normal, non-name-nerd) people won’t notice!
Bummer you can’t use [name]Felix[/name]! I actually know a brother/sister named [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] and I’ve always loved it. I prefer [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] over [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] though…
Overall, I’m far more fond of [name]Jasper[/name], but I can see how it’s just problematic enough to not use. [name]Leo[/name] has been growing in popularity, so if you’re worried about that you may need to go back to the drawing board. [name]Both[/name] names are rather handsome though, I like your picks.
[name]Both[/name] names are gaining in popularity, so don’t let that sway you. I happen to love both [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]. If the nicknames are a concern, call him [name]Jack[/name] instead of [name]Jas[/name]/[name]Jazz[/name].
