Jasper?

I honestly never thought I’d make this post.

It’s not that I’ve disliked [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. I’ve not really had any opinions on him, honestly. I couldn’t really imagine a little boy named [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and when I could imagine a guy with the name, it was just the stupid jerk from The [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] (the house-swappy film with [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] [name_u]Diaz[/name_u] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Winslet[/name_f], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Black[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m]?).

I don’t know what’s happened, but now I am envisioning the most adorable, prim-and-proper little boy an a vest and bowtie with a mischievous grin who loves to cuddle with mommy during reading time before bed.

I’m seriously so annoyed.

[name_m]Casper[/name_m]'s seriously one of my very favorite names (one day, he could have replaced [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] as my top choice for a boy), and I obviously can’t use both (it was bad enough having [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_u]Eden[/name_u] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Gaspard[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] both on my top 5!). I was perfectly happy without adding [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] to the mix, and I don’t want to like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] more than [name_m]Casper[/name_m].

le sigh. [I know I’m complaining/whining. I’m sorry.]

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]? What kind of little boy do you imagine with the name? Teenager? Grown man? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_m]Casper[/name_m] or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] could fit in with the names in my signature? ([name_m]Casper[/name_m] excluded, of course.)

Thanks, Berries!

I’m extremely biased because I am one of the people who can’t see the appeal of [name_m]Casper[/name_m]. I’m not that old, but I grew up with the whole [name_m]Casper[/name_m] the friendly ghost movies and he annoyed the hell out of me. That being said, [name_m]Cas[/name_m] as a nickname makes it more redeemable for me. But I digress. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], I love. I think it’s adorable, and I absolutely see a precocious little boy like the one you described. I’ve seen The [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] and it doesn’t change a thing for me! I’m firmly on the [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] side. It will age amazingly, in my opinion, yet it isn’t too much for a young boy to carry.

I like the way [name_m]Casper[/name_m] sounds more than [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but because of associations with both (the friendly ghost and one of the villains on 101 Dalmatians), I just don’t think I could do either.

What do you think about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]? Not as many associations and you could call him [name_m]Cas[/name_m] or [name_m]Casper[/name_m] for short.

Thanks, guys!

[name_f]Alice[/name_f], I thought about you and your [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] combo, and I knew you’d come to [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]'s defense! I was never allowed to see the [name_m]Casper[/name_m] films/shows, so I really don’t know what to think of him, although my mom says the ones she grew up with were harmless and cute. I sometimes wonder if people are put off from [name_m]Casper[/name_m] (because of the friendly ghost) much like [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and his blanket? I just know that it’s a pop culture tie, but I love it because of the sound, the meaning that makes it feel so adventurous (“treasurer” or “treasure seeker”), they way it seems to be rather international ([name_m]Caspar[/name_m] in [name_m]French[/name_m], [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] in [name_m]German[/name_m], it’s used in Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, [name_m]Kacper[/name_m] in Poland, etc., etc.!), and yet feels so distinctly European. I also like that it’s rumored to be one of the names of the [name_f]Magi[/name_f] ([name_m]Gaspar/name_m/[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]), though I’m not sure where people have gotten that from? It’s not in the Bible. But if it’s true, it sort of carries on the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] name theme that my sister and I share–with [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I don’t know, haha. And OMGOODNESS, [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]! I discovered that show on Hulu several months ago and my mom and I binge watched it. I got my sisters all hooked (and even my dad, I think, although he was very begrudging to admit it!). I hadn’t even thought of [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] in relation to [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]–I just saw a clip on youtube to remind myself. Was he [name_u]Stevie[/name_u]'s dog? When she and [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] were trying to impress that one guy whose wallet they found? I haven’t seen the show for quite a while, and now that I’m sad I’m forgetting details. Maybe I should binge-watch it all over again, haha!

@jlstrk - thank you for your feedback! I actually do like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] a lot (a la [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]), although I prefer it as a MN. Right now, I have [name_m]Zane[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] on my short list (which, at the moment, isn’t very short at all, lol). But if it came down to it, I don’t think, even think I’d use [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] up front even if I was forbidden from using [name_m]Casper[/name_m]/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m], haha. [name_m]Casper[/name_m] just suits me and my naming style much more.

I think, at the moment, I’ll keep [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] on my radar, and if it grows on me any more, I’ll consider adding it. I mean, I have [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], so why not [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], too? I’m not terribly concerned about similar favorites right now, because I probably will have to lose half my favorites when I take into consideration a future husband, anyway. I think I just had this one flash of seeing [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] in a totally different light, and when I woke up in the morning, all those feelings for [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] were gone haha. So, I’ll keep an eye on him, and we’ll see if he merits a position later. As you can probably tell from this post, I’m nothing if not a drama queen lol.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]! It’s my favourite boys name  I love that it’s a gemstone name for a boy and the nickname [name_u]Jaz[/name_u] is so cool.

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is adorable! Prim and proper come to mind. [name_m]Casper[/name_m] does make me think of the friendly ghost

Hey, [name_u]Ash[/name_u]!
Well you know i have a [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], so I’m biased.
Your description of his personality is pretty close.
He wants you to know that [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a good name.

Sometimes people get mistaken and think his name is [name_m]Casper[/name_m]. I am not a fan, it seems way over the top for me for some reason. But i love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Haha

Personally, I prefer [name_m]Casper[/name_m]. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is a not so nice town near where I grew up so it’s my first association and no matter how many little Jaspers I meet, I still can’t get over it.
The friendly ghost association is a plus for me as I loved the cartoon (and movie) when I was a kid and have always thought it was an awesome name.

I prefer [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] to [name_m]Casper[/name_m], but I prefer [name_m]Cas[/name_m] to [name_u]Jaz[/name_u]. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] doesn’t really have any associations for me, which is a good thing. [name_m]Casper[/name_m] makes me think of the friendly ghost, which isn’t bad, but it’s just strong and as long as you don’t mind “like the ghost?” comments I don’t think it would be a problem. It’s also pretty recent because there was a [name_m]Casper[/name_m] movie made in 2006 and a tv series that aired in 2009 and 2012 on Cartoon Network.

I adore [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], though like you, I could see it on a sweet, snugly, doe-eyed little boy… Or even a mischievous little guy… But struggle to see it aging. that wouldn’t stop me from using it, but sadly my partner would. I’m definitely on board with the imagery of [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] as a nature lover and animal lover… with an adventurous spirit and thoughtful soul. and I suppose I could see him being well-rounded as a teen/young adult…smart, athletic, well-liked. Ack now you’ve got me back on [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]! Anyway, as far as [name_m]Casper[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], I’ve always preferred [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but not because of the friendly ghost association. I think they’re both good names. I do like [name_m]Cas[/name_m]/Caz more than [name_m]Jas[/name_m]/[name_u]Jaz[/name_u], if you’re a nickname person.

I like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. It reminds me of the stone, so I consider it a nature name. Because if that I think of a down to earth, rugged little boy! in my mind he has red hair and freckles.

I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]'s very handsome.

I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] because of its nature meaning, and I know a delightful, creative, sensitive little boy with this name. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it, and I’ve thought about adding it to my list.
