Jazzing up old lady names

For a girl’s first name, we’re pretty set on [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]/[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]. I’d love to find a middle name that somehow honors the grandmotherly ladies in my life. The names I am working with are:

[name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
[name_f]Eunice[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]

I’m not hip enough to embrace these as they are. Any suggestions on variations or combinations, etc? So far, I’ve got:

[name_f]Eula[/name_f] (honors [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] and [name_f]Ursula[/name_f])
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] (honors [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Ursula[/name_f])
[name_f]Ulla[/name_f] (honors [name_f]Ursula[/name_f])

Not sure how well any of these go with [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f], because that is a lot of “L” sounds. Ideas??

I love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]! It’s one of my cats names and I always thought it was beautiful. Have you looking into names that mean the same thing?
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f] - she bear DIMINUTIVES: [name_f]Ulla[/name_f], [name_m]Ursel[/name_m], Uschi

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] - peace VARIANTS: [name_f]Iria[/name_f] (Portuguese), [name_f]Irina[/name_f] (Finnish), [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] (Ancient Greek), [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] (Greek Mythology)
DIMINUTIVE: Irja

Hopefully this helped a little bit!

I really like the sound of [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]!!

how about…

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
I’m having a tough time coming up with something for [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. I so love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] though…it’s got a nice sound to it.

I feel ya, especially paired with (chic) old lady name [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]!

Going off of the meaning thing:
[name_f]URSULA[/name_f] - “little female bear”
[name_u]Auberon[/name_u] - “bear like”
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u] - “bear strength”
[name_f]Nita[/name_f] - “bear”
[name_f]Orsa[/name_f] - “little female bear”

[name_f]EUNICE[/name_f] - “victorious”
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]/[name_u]Nicola[/name_u]/[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] - “victory of the people”
[name_f]Signe[/name_f] - “new victory”
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f] - “fair victory”
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]/[name_f]Victoire[/name_f]/[name_f]Tory[/name_f] - “victory”

[name_f]IRENE[/name_f] - “peace”
[name_f]Arcadia[/name_f] - “region offering peace and contentment”
[name_f]Concordia[/name_f] - “peace and harmony”
[name_f]Salome[/name_f] - “peace”
[name_u]Shalom[/name_u] - “peace”
[name_f]Serenity[/name_f] - “peaceful”

My grandma was [name_f]IRENE[/name_f], and I’ve always liked [name_f]Iris[/name_f] to honor her. It sort of combines [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] for you.

My favorites:
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Arcadia[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Sybil[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] has a “newness” to it with the E even though it’s still pronounced the same. [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] to combine [name_f]Ula[/name_f] (Polish diminutive of Ursula) and Eunice.

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eula[/name_f] [name_f]Eirene[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] [name_f]Eirene[/name_f]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] @chlorine6,

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is fantastic … as is [name_f]Eunice[/name_f], [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] :).

Here’s my best idea:

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

[name_f]Eunice[/name_f] = “good victory”; [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] = “victory”

I love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] (prefer that spelling) - fell in love with it when I was watching Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u].

I do think the combos you have are a bit L heavy. I really prefer the use of your ‘grandmotherly’ names outright. Particularly like [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] or [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irena[/name_f]. I don’t find [name_f]Irene[/name_f] very grandmotherly - it sounds fresh to me. I’ll agree with [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is too old fashioned.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] use the last portion of the names?

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Sula[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] Nice/[name_f]Nica[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Rene[/name_u]

Although, I would like to also put in a vote for [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. But I’m partial to [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] both work well and I’d say use one of these! Another combination of these could be [name_f]Iris[/name_f]-- but that’s a lot of S-- [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] too.

Some other possibilities:

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] ([name_f]Colette[/name_f] means “people of victory”)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] (means “bringer of victory”)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Columba[/name_u] (peace)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] (dove)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Freda[/name_f] (peace)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Halcyon/name_u
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_u]Harmony[/name_u]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Nadette[/name_f] (bear)

Hmmm…well [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is definitely an old lady name for me…much more than [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Ilene[/name_f]/[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Irene[/name_f]? It’s almost the same sound and [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] has a more modern sound than [name_f]Irene[/name_f].
