For a girl’s first name, we’re pretty set on [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]/[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]. I’d love to find a middle name that somehow honors the grandmotherly ladies in my life. The names I am working with are:
I love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]! It’s one of my cats names and I always thought it was beautiful. Have you looking into names that mean the same thing?
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f] - she bear DIMINUTIVES: [name_f]Ulla[/name_f], [name_m]Ursel[/name_m], Uschi
[name_f]Eunice[/name_f] - good victory VARIANTS: [name_f]Unice[/name_f] (English), [name_f]Eunike[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] - peace VARIANTS: [name_f]Iria[/name_f] (Portuguese), [name_f]Irina[/name_f] (Finnish), [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] (Ancient Greek), [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] (Greek Mythology)
DIMINUTIVE: Irja
I really like the sound of [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f]!!
how about…
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
I’m having a tough time coming up with something for [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. I so love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] though…it’s got a nice sound to it.
My grandma was [name_f]IRENE[/name_f], and I’ve always liked [name_f]Iris[/name_f] to honor her. It sort of combines [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] for you.
My favorites:
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Arcadia[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Eirene[/name_f] has a “newness” to it with the E even though it’s still pronounced the same. [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] to combine [name_f]Ula[/name_f] (Polish diminutive of Ursula) and Eunice.
I love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] (prefer that spelling) - fell in love with it when I was watching Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u].
I do think the combos you have are a bit L heavy. I really prefer the use of your ‘grandmotherly’ names outright. Particularly like [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] or [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irena[/name_f]. I don’t find [name_f]Irene[/name_f] very grandmotherly - it sounds fresh to me. I’ll agree with [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] paired with [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is too old fashioned.
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] both work well and I’d say use one of these! Another combination of these could be [name_f]Iris[/name_f]-- but that’s a lot of S-- [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] too.
Hmmm…well [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] is definitely an old lady name for me…much more than [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Ilene[/name_f]/[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Irene[/name_f]? It’s almost the same sound and [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] has a more modern sound than [name_f]Irene[/name_f].
