If I wanted to use a middle name honoring a great grandma [name]Eugenia[/name], would it make sense to just use [name]Jean[/name]?
Yes, but I prefer [name]Eugenie[/name]
I’m just really not into any form of “[name]Eugene[/name]” to be honest… just nms. But like I said I’d REALLY love to honor her… which is why I’m REALLY hoping that just using [name]Jean[/name] would make sense.
I think so. I can’t see any reason why not. You could also use something like [name]Jana[/name] or [name]Janne[/name] (Latvian and Finnish variations of [name]Jean[/name]), which is a bit more of a stretch, but still honors [name]Eugenia[/name]. [name]Even[/name] [name]June[/name] or [name]Jane[/name] are similar, though I totally understand wanting something that’s closer to the original name.
[name]Jean[/name] is a really special name to me that I plan to use in the middle spot when/if I one day have a daughter. It was my grandmother’s name and I think it’s lovely.
I like [name]Eugenia[/name], but I also really like [name]Jean[/name]. It’s probably not quite vintage enough to appeal to the general public yet but I think it could come back pretty soon – [name]Jeanie[/name] is also pretty adorable as a nn. The only other thing I can think of (aside from [name]Jean[/name] variants such as [name]Jeanette[/name]) is [name]Gina[/name], which is closer in spelling but a totally different style (probably fit in quite well with all the Sophias and Olivias running around, but then [name]Jean[/name] is pretty at home with the Emmas, Graces, etc.).
This is funny, b/c I plan to use [name]Eugenie[/name] to honor a [name]Jean[/name].
Thanks for the replies everyone… very reassuring!
Yes, [name]Jean[/name] follows from [name]Eugenia[/name] but prefer the original or the French [name]Eugenie[/name], or if you want to take it further [name]Gigi[/name].
Me too! Would [name]Imogen[/name] be too much of a stretch? I also agree with others [name]Jane[/name] is a nice related alternative.
I think [name]Jean[/name] is lovely, or ‘[name]Jeanie[/name]’ which I think is adorable. You could spell it ‘[name]Genie[/name]’ instead.
Personally I think [name]Eugenia[/name] is a beautiful sweet name. Go for it!
