Jean-Paul?

I wanted to possibly honor two family members, both my grandfather who was named [name]Paul[/name] and my grandmother who had the surname [name]Jean[/name].

I have a lot of french ancestry but my surname (from my husband) is English/Irish so I did not know if this name would sound strange with a surname that isn’t really french?

The name sounds nice to me but I don’t know how a little boy would handle this type of name. I wanted others opinions on the name combination. Is it pretentious? Elitist? Weird?

[name]Jean[/name] said like [name]John[/name] sort of right?

I really adore the [name]Jean[/name]-Something names ([name]Jean[/name]-[name]Claude[/name] and [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Baptiste[/name] are some of my favorites). I think [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Paul[/name] is very handsome and a little higher class sounding, but nothing to get worried about. You can call him [name]Paulie[/name] or JP when he’s a kid or some other nickname and that would make it work better on a kid. So handsome!

If you have a strong French heritage, then it works. I really like [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Paul[/name].

Honestly, I think it only works if you live in a French-speaking place. Otherwise, it sounds pretty pretentious (with the ‘zh’ sound at the beginning).
