I wouldn’t really consider [name]Jenna[/name] [name]Bush[/name]-[name]Hager[/name] a celebrity, but her birth announcement was on people.com, so…
On 13 [name]April[/name], 2013 [name]Jenna[/name] [name]Bush[/name] [name]Hager[/name] and her husband welcomed daughter, [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] [name]Hager[/name], but they call her [name]Mila[/name].
What do you think? I kinda like it, though I think [name]Mila[/name] is a bit of a stretch.
Two classic names. I prefer [name]Margaret[/name] to [name]Laura[/name]. I don’t know how they come up with [name]Mila[/name] from [name]Margaret[/name] but [name]Mila[/name] [name]Hager[/name] sounds better than [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Hager[/name].
I think it’s probably one of my favourite celebrity baby names of the year. Two ovely, strong and elegant names, plus the family connection, and I think [name]Mila[/name] is very smart, unexpected nickname that makes the combo special.
(If you say “[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name]” outloud, the nickname makes sense.)
Wherefrom did they get [name]Mila[/name]? I mean, is that a nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] now? There’s no I in [name]Margaret[/name] so the nickname doesn’t really make any sense (I guess they couldn’t call her [name]Mala[/name], that also sounds stupid). [name]Margaret[/name] is a lovely name and there are so many beautiful nicknames for that name so I don’t know why they’d use [name]Mila[/name]. But hey, that’s their choice - don’t like that dreadful family anyway.
I am a bit befuddled by [name]Mila[/name], as well! I love [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name], and I think [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Greta[/name] would have been adorable (even [name]Mae[/name] or [name]Daisy[/name]!), but I just don’t get [name]Mila[/name] at all, haha. Either way, she has a lovely name.
I like it! I didn’t know she had the baby, but [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] sounds like family names. The la part is obviously from [name]Laura[/name]. Personally I dislike [name]Maisie[/name]. [name]Margie[/name] and [name]Meg[/name]/giey sound dated. I like [name]Mila[/name]. I could see her being [name]Maggie[/name] or something when she gets older. A nickname is hardly set in stone. But I think [name]Mila[/name] is cute anyway. Despite my personal feelings, I think it’s lovely.
I don’t know much about her husband or his family. It’s possible there’s another [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Maggie[/name] and that’s why they went with [name]Mila[/name]. My favorite [name]Margaret[/name]'s call themselves [name]Margaret[/name].
I like it. It’s a lovely name and it will age well. Yes, the nn [name]Mila[/name] is a bit of a stretch. I kinda see how they got it–the M from [name]Margaret[/name], and the -la from [name]Laura[/name]. I don’t think it’s more of a stretch than [name]Peg[/name] from [name]Margaret[/name]!
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] is divine. The full name is a tad bit heavy on A’s though. I can appreciate the attempt to give her a modern nn with a clunky first name and since when does a nn HAVE to reflect the given name?
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Laura[/name] is rather lovely, although I too am befuddled by the [name]Mila[/name] nickname. I thought [name]Mara[/name] would make better sense as a nn, combining the first two letters of [name]Margaret[/name] and last two of [name]Laura[/name]. Their choice though.
NB: [name]Both[/name] are family names, [name]Margaret[/name] is after [name]Henry[/name]'s mother, [name]Laura[/name] obviously after [name]Laura[/name] [name]Bush[/name].
[name]Peg[/name] isn’t really a stretch though is it?!
[name]Peg[/name] is simple a rhyming form of [name]Meg[/name], a more obvious short form of [name]Margaret[/name], and inspired by the fact [name]Polly[/name] evolved from [name]Molly[/name] as a nickname for [name]Mary[/name].
It’s just a nickname, guys. Among families where certain names are repeated, it’s often used to distinguish one from another. Think of To Kill a Mockingbird: [name]Charles[/name] [name]Baker[/name] [name]Harris[/name] is called Dill; [name]Jean[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Finch[/name] is called [name]Scout[/name]. It doesn’t have to derive from the original name; it’s just a pet name to distinguish the younger [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Hager[/name] from the elder [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Hager[/name].
I have to say I really like her choice…two solid classics with the added benefit of being family names.
[name]Mila[/name] from M.L. works for me. I think as [name]Mila[/name] keeps getting more play in the US were going to see more varied ways to get to it…[name]Ludmila[/name] and [name]Milena[/name] and the like arent everyone’s cup of tea.
I think it’s a very well thought out name. It’s classic while the nickname is modern and fresh, and it’s still honouring both sides of the family. I like it
I actually really love it and it kinda makes me want to make my own grandma smoosh.
And whoever called them a “dreadful family,” unless you know them personally - and you don’t - that’s pretty inappropriate. This is a name forum. Let’s leave politics out of it.
“Whoever” don’t know them personally, but you don’t have to know the [name]Bush[/name] family personally to know that both [name]George[/name] Sr. and [name]George[/name] [name]Jr[/name]. were poison for [name]America[/name] (and the rest of the world - when [name]America[/name] sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold). But yeah, this is not the place to discuss politics, I agree. Though I do think that the forum will survive one line (I didn’t write an entire paragraph on how much I hate Republicans) of me stating my opinion.
