A friend of a friend just had a baby girl and named her Jessabella … They tried to talk her out of it, but she persisted… to me (and everybody else) it sounds like [name]Jezabel[/name]!! wdyt of this name? or it just has too many “uh” sounds… there is something about the name that just grates on me. of course, she isn’t my child, but anyway wdyt of Jessabella???
It’s way too frilly and girly for me. It isn’t that different from [name]Isabella[/name], so it doesn’t seem made-up. She’ll have the option of going by [name]Jessie[/name] or [name]Jessa[/name] if she ends up being a tomboy or [name]Bella[/name] if she’s girly. Not my style at all, but it isn’t a bad name.
It’s not my thing. I am one of those that runs for the hills to escape [name]Jezebel[/name], lol, so Jessabella is way too close for me, but it does have some sweet nns, as @agirlinred said. The connection is too much for me but it’s much better than [name]Jezebel[/name] or Jessabelle imo.
I dislike it. When I first saw the title of this post, I strongly disliked it, but saying it out loud it’s not that bad (that is a very, very small 'that" ;).
However, I still think it sounds very made up and a little silly. Too frilly for my taste as well. Sometimes names that sound like “smoosh” names work like Marilyn (Mary + Lynn) and Annabeth, but other times… Jessabella happens (no disrespect intended).
Despite the fact I’m secretly in love with [name]Jezebel[/name] (shhh!) I’m not a fan of this.
It looks very silly to me and sounds like a crazily-frilly pet’s name. I think most people will automatically spell is Jezebella too, or mistake her for a [name]Jessica[/name]. Not bad on the scale of things, but I wouldn’t use it if I was paid to.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s excessive with the double-s’ and double-ls.
You can go with [name]Jessa[/name] [name]Belle[/name] as a first and middle?
Seem like maybe she was going for a variation of [name]Jezebel[/name] though I can’t say for sure what her reasoning is. Maybe she likes the meaning of [name]Jezebel[/name] but dislikes the negative association with it so she changed the spelling a bit and added a frilly A at the end (maybe to fit in with the other “[name]Bella[/name]” names.) Did you ask her why she likes this name or where she heard it from etc rather than just trying to talk her out if it? Try to get her perspective on it and try seeing the name that way. Not that it’ll make you like the name any better but maybe it won’t aggravate you as much.
It isn’t my style, but I like Mom’s bravery! What a clever way to get to [name]Jezebel[/name] (which, yes, has a horrid history, but also a gorgeous sound)! The nickname possibilities make this name a winner in my book. Congrats to your friend on the birth of her daughter, Jessabella.
