We’re getting a Labradoodle (Labrador and Poodle) puppy next week. My brother got to pick out the puppy, so they let me pick the name (knowing I’m a name nerd). I picked [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] after [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] Gibbs on NCIS, but now I’m worried that people will think he’s named after that character on [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] Hillbillies, which I’ve never even seen. My dad keeps joking about it to make me mad, and saying we’ll get a girl named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f], or something like that. [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] is a name I like, but would never use for a baby or anything. Is it a good dog name? Or am I just overthinking this? I don’t want to go around saying “This is [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] after Gibbs on NCIS” all the time. Any suggestions?
I personally don’t like [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] unless you called him [name_u]Jet[/name_u]. It just doesn’t sound like a dog name to me.
What about–
[name_u]Jet[/name_u]
[name_m]Ace[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]
I like it a lot and Gibbs was the first person I thought of when I heard the name. I the the [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] Hillbillies is more of a generational thing so I don’t think you’ll have to worry about very many comparisons. I think [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] works well on a dog.
[name_m]Jethro[/name_m] is great for a dog! Pets are great opportunities to use names you wouldn’t be bold enough to use on a child.
Personally, I think the name [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] is synonymously associated with the [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] Hillbillys and it’s probably the first thing that would come to mind for anyone in their late 20’s or older…
… I’m sorry NCIS is the last thing I would ever associate with the name [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] but it’s still an excellent name for a dog (I’m biased as my dog is named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]) It’s typically used for hounds, coon dogs, beagles, etc… The character was known for his ditsy, comedic relief.
