I know it has some hillbilly association but my SO and I are really liking this one. Our other child’s name is [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] though, so they’d share half the letters in their names so I wonder it that comes off matchy?
Thinking his full name would be [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], liking [name_u]Jett[/name_u], [name_m]Jeth[/name_m], Jethie (baby nickname I don’t see this one lasting), and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] for nicknames, [name_u]Jem[/name_u] coming from JEthro Maverick. I do prefer [name_m]Jeth[/name_m] for it’s similarity to [name_u]Seth[/name_u] but I know everyone will hear [name_u]Jett[/name_u] (or [name_m]Jeff[/name_m] but that will be politely corrected for sure) I like [name_u]Jem[/name_u] for the literary reference, To Kill a Mockingbird, and [name_u]Jett[/name_u] [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] gives cool guy/Top [name_m]Gun[/name_m] vibes so I feel like a child/teen would love that.
I definitely feel it’s very different from my usual taste, my other top name being [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], but as I’m changing my name to [name_f]Margo[/name_f] I’ve been exploring other options that don’t match that much.
[name_m]Jethro[/name_m] is very cool and charming - I like it. I think [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is a fairly versatile name, so they work imo. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] makes a great nn choice that brings balance too:)
I love [name_m]Jethro[/name_m]! Definitely one of my top choices for a boy. The nicknames are great. It doesn’t seem too matchy with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] but they could definitely be siblings.
Not too matchy. In general, I like [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] more than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I also think it vibes well with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and if you’re changing your name to [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] is way less matchy soundwise than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].
I actually know two young boys named [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] (one around 7, one around 2). It’s really grown on me! One goes exclusively by his full name, the other is sometimes [name_u]Jet[/name_u].
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] sound good together - the R sounds are different enough that the TH makes them related but not too similar.
If you’re in the US, it will definitely be associated with The [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] Hillbillies by older generations. That being said, I think it’s a great name and it’s sad that the association has kept it from use for so long. I feel the same way about [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] and the association with the [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] movies from the 90s. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s middle name is [name_m]Grover[/name_m] and people do immediately associate it with the muppet upon first hearing it, but it’s rarely mentioned after that. If you really love the name I say go for it!
I definitely prefer your [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] combo with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], but then you’re right, [name_f]Margo[/name_f] makes that a little complicated. [name_u]Jet[/name_u] bro [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] ‘Jem’ is a great idea!
