Joaquin

guys i really wanna love this name just cause it looks so cool but i can’t get past the fact that it’s literally quinoa backwards!! (in sound ofc, when said like wa-keen)

how do i get past this? :0000

Oh my goodness, I’ll never be able to unhear that now :hear_no_evil:

I don’t know how you can get past it, but if it reassures you, this has never crossed my mind before!

You could maybe go for a slightly different pronunciation (I’ve heard the J pronounced as in English) or spelling (Joachim or [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m] are both used).

omg hahahahahahahahahaha never thought about Quinoa, and there are a couple of Joaquins in my family (pronounced with the spanish J).

I prefer [name_m]Joachim[/name_m], and I really like the nickname Kim/Quim/Chim

I’d never noticed that

Hm, maybe you can make the J sound more audibly Spanish? [name_u]Or[/name_u] go with [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m], which is pronounced either with more of a [name_u]French[/name_u] J sound in the beginning (though the name is Catalan/Portuguese).

i never realized that!

i think that’s partially because i’d say [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] in three syllables (hoh-ah-keen), and quinoa in two. i agree with the suggestion of [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m] (which i actually prefer to Joaquin), and pronouncing it with a more audibly Spanish “j”.

The Catalan nn for [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m] is Quimet, which I love.

I can see quinoa in there but it’s not really backwards in sound. I’ve never noticed it’s similarity to quinoa but I actually kinda like Quinoa as a gp name lol

Yea even speaking Spanish I definitely hear quinoa. I honestly don’t think there’s any way other than maybe going to [name_m]Joaquim[/name_m]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] pronouncing the J more how it is in Spanish where the J makes an H sound instead of a wah- sound?

hi!
im argentinian and have never made the connection between quinoa and [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m], and even now that you pointed it out, i still think they sound veery different
plus i know a loot of Joaquins and nobody has ever made that connection as far as i know
i think it’s because [name_m]Joaquín[/name_m] is pronounced very different in spanish than in english so idk about that
hope this helps

oh and btw i don’t think the association to quinoa is bad at all hahah, i love quinoa lol

[name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] is beautiful and phonetically speaking quinoa backwards would be aw-neek :joy:

But hey, of you can’t hear this name without thinking of quinoa and that’s a dealbreaker, that’s totally okay. We all have associations that attract us to, or turn us off from, names.
