I really like the name [name_m]Job[/name_m]. My husband thinks it will constantly be mispronounced ([name_m]Job[/name_m] like work) or the kids will tease him. What do you all think?
I do think it will be mispronounced, except perhaps in church settings. (And even there you’ll find people who pronounce it like the word job.) You could try the spelling [name_m]Jobe[/name_m], which eliminates the pronunciation issues. Or [name_m]Joel[/name_m], another short biblical name with the [name_u]Jo[/name_u]- sound.
It was in Arrested Development as a nickname which is the only place I’ve heard it. I don’t usually recommend alternate spellings, but [name_m]Jobe[/name_m] would help immensely since [name_m]Job[/name_m] is a very common noun.
I’ll be honest, I read the title of this thread as "[name_m]Job[/name_m] (work) opinions. I think it will definitely be mispronounced because it is an uncommon name but a commonly used word.
Handsome name!
I think [name_m]Job[/name_m] would probably be mispronounced a lot. Unfortunately teasing does seem a possibility to me because “job” appears in some well known sexual phrases.
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Jobe[/name_m].
I do really like the name myself, but the pronunciation concerns are valid. This is the one real time I think a spelling change is warranted. [name_m]Jobe[/name_m], as others have suggested, would be a great choice. It’s still the same name, but it appears as an actual name, not a noun. Additionally, it helps that [name_m]Jobe[/name_m] is the surname of singer [name_u]Kari[/name_u] [name_m]Jobe[/name_m]. It’s at least out there, ya know?
Not a fan…
I also read it as job (as in employment) opinions (especially since I found it on nameberry’s homepage, where it lists recently replied to threads, so I had no clue which forum it’d be in). I respect the story of [name_m]Job[/name_m] in the Bible, and it is an interesting name, but unless you’re in an ultra-[name_m]Christian[/name_m] setting where 99% of the people you interact with are familiar with the story of [name_m]Job[/name_m], it’s probably not a great idea. Maybe as a middle name? I feel like I remember there being a birth announcement on here (a few years ago) for a little boy named [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_m]Job[/name_m]. I think something like that would work okay.
Good luck!
It might work better as a middle name. Then again, a lot of people correct their name’s pronunciation on a regular basis. [name_m]Job[/name_m] isn’t hard to grasp.
I expect it would be mispronounced sometimes but correctly pronounced most of the time as it’s a well known Biblical name… The super strong Biblical association would be my concern, not the pronunciation issue. People would assume someone named [name_m]Job[/name_m] had ultra-[name_m]Christian[/name_m] parents/an ultra-[name_m]Christian[/name_m] upbringing. Not like parents who name their kids [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] or [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], but like [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Jedediah[/name_m]. Or like people may assume [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] was raised in a Catholic household. This all is fine, as long as you’re aware of that and okay with it.
At first I read it as job (the word) and english isn’t even my first language. If you live in a anglophone country a lot of people will think about the word before the name. You can always find similar names and use [name_m]Job[/name_m] as a nickname
I love it, personally, it’s on my list! Some boy J-names feel so dated but the sound of [name_m]Job[/name_m] is so fresh AND has an on-trend sound, I think. You could change the spelling, depends on how important having the exact name from the Bible is to you.
