Jocelyn? Thoughts and pronounciation advice

[name]Hi[/name] everyone!
We are still working on a name for our #2, but since we still don’t know what we’re having, I’ve slowed down on my search lately. I thought we had tentatively settled on [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Joy[/name] to go with our dd [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hope[/name], but now dh is saying he’s not crazy about [name]Matilda[/name].

We found out that we both like [name]Jocelyn[/name]. Maybe [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Joy[/name].

What are your thoughts on [name]Jocelyn[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think it works at all with [name]Isla[/name]? We really like [name]Jo[/name] or [name]Joey[/name] or possibly [name]Josie[/name] for nns, but I’m not worried about choosing that right now, the nn will chose her I’m sure.

Other concern is, we like it pronounced just 2 sylables, [name]Joss[/name]-lyn. Is that ok, or is it really supposed to be [name]Joss[/name]-ah-lyn?

Thanks!

I think [name]Jocelyn[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] go together…but I know a [name]Jocelyn[/name], and she pronounces it [name]Joss[/name]-uh-lyn. You can spell it [name]Joslyn[/name], instead, to avoid any mispronunciations.

I’m not a huge fan of [name]Jocelyn[/name], and I don’t think it goes well with [name]Isla[/name]. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] with [name]Isla[/name] though! [name]Shame[/name] the hubby isn’t too fond. That aside I pronounce [name]Jocelyn[/name] with 2 1/2 syllables, kind of like [name]Joss[/name]-eh-lynn, but the -eh is super short and wispy almost…

Oh, too bad, [name]Matilda[/name] is so much fun.
I pronounce [name]Jocelyn[/name] like this: [name]JOSS[/name]-uh-lynn. Very pretty name.

I love [name]Jocelyn[/name]. It’s pretty, not made up, and not too common these days. To avoid the joss-ah-lyn pronunciation i would spell it [name]Josslyn[/name]… although I usually don’t like made up spellings. Must her middle name be [name]Joy[/name]? I don’t like how [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Joy[/name] sounds for the obvious reason…

I think that even when you have the intention of saying it [name]Joss[/name]-uh-lin, it runs together as [name]Joss[/name]-lin. If you change the spelling, her name will probably be misspelled a lot.

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of [name]Jocelyn[/name]. I’m just not crazy about the way it sounds or looks, personally. I don’t think it is bad with [name]Isla[/name], but it doesn’t seem to have the same playful, feminine feel that [name]Isla[/name] has. That being said, if you both love it, then you should use it…

I’m trying to think of other names that work with [name]Isla[/name] and have a similar feel to [name]Jocelyn[/name]. Here’s what I came up with:

[name]Cailean[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [Pronounced like [name]Kaylin[/name]. [name]Love[/name] this!]
[name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [A bit more “classic,” but [name]Elsa[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name] are cute!]
[name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [Yep, you might think this is too trendy…]
[name]Paisley[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [Playful, whimsical, and semi-unisex. Great!]

Good luck!

Nope, it def. doesn’t have to be [name]Joy[/name]. DD’s mn is [name]Hope[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hope[/name], so we thought it was cute, but are def. not set on it.

thanks everyone. I’m not all that crazy about it today.

I’m getting kind of nervous. . .I know I have plenty of time, 5 months left? But I feel like we have looked at and thought about [name]EVERY[/name] girl name there is and just don’t like any enough for it to be the “one”

I love [name]Jocelyn[/name]. It’s a great name, well, at least I think so. I pronounce it [name]Joss[/name]-lyn. It’s lovely and uncommon.

[name]Kelli[/name],

I saw your other post about feeling hopeless, but you still have plenty of time, so just hang in there, okay? I know some gem of a name will pop out at you and your husband saying, “Pick me! I’m perfect for [name]Isla[/name]'s little sister!” Then, you will wonder what all this worrying was about! Anyway, I’m just going to list some names - many, if not all, of which you’ve probably considered - that I like with [name]Isla[/name]…

[name]How[/name] about [name]Rosalind[/name]?
It’s a beautiful name, and I think it would work well with [name]Isla[/name]. I thought of it because it kind of rhymes with [name]Jocelyn[/name] (even down to that tricky, do-I-don’t-I-pronounce-it middle syllable).

[name]Lemon[/name], what do the ** mean?

I think that [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Carys[/name] would be lovely together.

[name]Kelli[/name],

  • means I like that name with [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hope[/name] very much…

** means I love that name with [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hope[/name]! [name]Quinn[/name] is a new favorite of mine, and I think it has a unisex feel (like [name]Jocelyn[/name] or [name]Brynn[/name]) with a feminine, sophisticated sound, like Miss [name]Isla[/name]!

I also thought of [name]Cara[/name] or [name]Keira[/name] to go with [name]Isla[/name].

Good luck!

I have liked [name]Jocelyn[/name] for ages. I like most [name]Lyn[/name] names and I think [name]Jocelyn[/name] is a pretty, feminine name.

I read your hopeless post too and there I posted a few suggestions there for you.

got it [name]Lemon[/name]
Now. . .[name]Audrey[/name]. . .we used to really love that name and I think it’s really cute with [name]Isla[/name] but we got turned off b/c it’s pretty popular. Then we liked [name]Aubrey[/name] for a few minutes but decided it was too popular which made us think that [name]Audrey[/name] was that much worse b/c there would be lots of kids named [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] - combined that’s a lot of kids.

Should we look at it again though, is it really that popular?

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Audrey[/name] with [name]Isla[/name], [name]Kelli[/name]! Yes, it’s popular at #44, but to me, being popular is different from being trendy. [name]Audrey[/name] feels so timeless to me, and not at all trendy. Plus, it may not even be popular in your area!

And when you think about it, no name is really safe from mass popularity, because all it takes is one celebrity to use a certain name, and BAM! Popularity ensues.

I think that if [name]Audrey[/name] is a name you love, that’s what’s important!

Take care!

Maybe I am prejudice, but I have the best name in the world:
[name]JOSLYN[/name] [name]CHRISTINA[/name]
My father is [name]Joseph[/name] and my mother is [name]Linda[/name]…[name]Joslyn[/name]
People have been mispronouncing it my whole life. And don’t get me started on the spelling. This is something you will just have to accept. My nicknames include [name]Jos[/name], [name]Joss[/name], [name]Jossie[/name], [name]Jose[/name] [name]Lyn[/name], Jaws, Jawslyn, [name]Jock[/name] strap, [name]Jock[/name] itch, Juicy, J, [name]Joe[/name] [name]Lynn[/name], and as my father calls me, [name]Jossie[/name] [name]Chris[/name]. But I tell you what, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t tell someone my name and someone says,“What a beautiful name!”
The proper pronunciation is [name]Jos[/name] - [name]Lynn[/name]. I hate it when they pronounce it in three syllables and add the “ce”, Ja -Cell - [name]Lynn[/name]. The french say my name beautifully, Juice - [name]Lynn[/name]. My best friend has loved my name all our lives and is naming her baby girl after me. It is modern, unique (I hope it stays this way!), and classy. What more could you ask for in a name. Growing up, I was always shocked when I met another girl with my name and had to find out how they spelled it. I always joked that they spelt it wrong if they use the “ce” and that my name was the correct way. Make sure you choose a 3 syllable middle name to give it the finishing touch and it will ring in your ears. I promise your child will thank you for giving them such a special name.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Jocelyn[/name]! It’s one of my absolute favorite names. I also love [name]Jocelyn[/name] w/ [name]Isla[/name] (also one of my fav girl names!!) I do not like [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Joy[/name] though. What about [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Faith[/name]?
