Joel

What are your thoughts on the name [name]Joel[/name]?

I’ve always loved the name [name]Noel[/name], but the whole spelling being confused with “[name]Noelle[/name]” the [name]Christmas[/name] pronunciation and the girls name turns me away. In fact, I wanted to use the boys name [name]Noel[/name], until I figured out how it was spelled.

[name]Joel[/name] has a similar sound, but is it too 10 years ago?

What are your thoughts?

I think [name]Joel[/name] is a wee bit dated (the only ones I know are around my age, 19 and up), but not enough for it to be unusable on a child born today. I probably wouldn’t think twice if I met a little [name]Joel[/name].

I [name]DO[/name] love [name]Noel[/name] on the other hand, I would use it myself.

I like [name]Joel[/name]. I’ve only ever met 2 – one was a Cherokee Native American and one is a little boy under 10.

I think it’s handsome.

I agree- I don’t think there was an epidemic of [name]Joel[/name]. It doesn’t seem dated at all, and it will fit in well with all of the other biblical revival names.

No, I love [name]Joel[/name]!

I love the name [name]Joel[/name]! I admit that I am partial to it because of the singer for Good [name]Charlotte[/name] (my favorite band growing up) and the character on the show ‘Parenthood’ who is an Amazing father and role model… and so stinking cute, haha. But I have never actually known anyone named [name]Joel[/name] so I don’t think it is/was too popular or in danger of being “stuck” in any one period of time. =]

I don’t think [name]Joel[/name] is dated at all.

If anything, I find [name]Noel[/name] more dated, but perhaps that’s just me!

I’m sad that the similarity of [name]Noel[/name] to [name]Noelle[/name] turns you away. I love both so much.
I only meet one [name]Joel[/name] (b 1984) who went to school with me. I don’t think it’s too 10 years ago because I think it’s too uncommon for it to be dated at all.

I know 2 Joels… one is about 40, and the other is 31. And the name suited 2 very different guys. I’ve known the elder one my whole life - popular, 80s lifeguard, funny, good dad/adult. the younger [name]Joel[/name] was a classmate a year younger than me. Very athletic, and quiet. though also was popular, nice, and funny.

I’m not sure that it’s dated… maybe just a little forgotten?

I also like [name]Noel[/name]. It’s funny, spelled that way, to me it “Nohl” Like the musician [name]Noel[/name] [name]Gallagher[/name] from [name]Ireland[/name]. [name]Noell[/name] or [name]Noelle[/name] is more [name]Christmas[/name] to me “No-elle” or “No-well”. [name]Just[/name] my opinion.

Good luck and go with your heart.

I know one [name]Joel[/name]. He’s 13 and a character! He’s very sweet and kind of a prankster. I like [name]Noel[/name], too. Is there an alternate spelling?

I quite like [name]Joel[/name], I’ve only ever known one who I went to school with but I don’t think it was ever popular enough to become dated.

[name]Noel[/name] feels more dated to me than [name]Joel[/name].

No [name]Joel[/name] is not too dated, I am 13 and have never met a [name]Joel[/name] my age: one is 8 the other is about 19

I love the name [name]Joel[/name]! In fact, if it wasn’t already the name of my cousin (age 29) or a guy I dated (age 27) it would be on my short list.

I know a [name]Joel[/name], an excellent person. I’ve really grown to like his name. At first I had the association with [name]Billy[/name] [name]Joel[/name], so the name seemed a bit 80’s to me. But I think it’s a simple enough name that it doesn’t really get stale. I like how it has a joyous, jolly sound to it. I also like how it’s kind of one syllable and kind of two syllables.

[name]Joel[/name] is pretty timeless [name]IMO[/name]. https://nameberry.com/list/357/Perennially-Popular-Boys-Names See? On the list continually since 1880 doesn’t spell fad name to me.

I really like it.

It’s not really popular right now but it’s not really a “you called him WHAT?” name either.

My husband’s grandfather’s name is [name]Noel[/name], and I adore it, but yes, the issue with folks naturally pronouncing it “No-elle” is a bit of a drag. We’re thinking we might spell it [name]Nowell[/name].

Re: [name]Joel[/name]. It’s a great name. Sounds solid and handsome. Much more common than [name]Noel[/name], though, so something to think about!
