We’ve ruled out [name]Eli[/name] and are now debating between [name]John[/name] and [name]Jack[/name]. Here are my thoughts
[name]John[/name] has a soft subtle sound while still being straightfoward, one syllable, is a pure classic while having connections to the Bible.
[name]Jack[/name] has a sturdy, manly sound that I think seems more fresh. I feel like we’ll run into more Jacks than Johns even though [name]Jack[/name] is less popular. I don’t want to use [name]Jack[/name] as a nickname for [name]John[/name], DH isn’t a fan of nicknames.
Possible combos:
[name]John[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]
[name]John[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] _____ (need to get some more middle name options)
I really like [name]John[/name]: simple, classic, understated, and increasingly unusual on a baby/child. [name]Jack[/name] feels a bit overdone to me these days and is far less sophisticated than [name]John[/name].
[name]John[/name]! It’s the more professional and formal-sounding name. [name]John[/name] [name]Edward[/name] is my very favorite from your list. I honestly cannot think of a more handsome combo for the first name [name]John[/name]. I think you nailed it.
[name]Jack[/name] reminds me of [name]Captain[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name].
But [name]Captain[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] was played by [name]Johnny[/name] Depp.
I also prefer [name]Jack[/name]. I can see how [name]John[/name] would be unexpected on a little baby/boy but I think I know too many [name]John[/name]'s to find it interesting. I have only met one little [name]Jack[/name] so where I am I don’t see it as being super popular. I agree with pp that jack [name]Samuel[/name] is very handsome.
While most people on here find [name]John[/name] refreshing, I find [name]Jack[/name] refreshing. I suppose that comes with having five living [name]John[/name]/Johnnys in my family, not to mention probably twice as many in my family tree. I would take [name]Jack[/name] over [name]John[/name] anyday, especially if [name]John[/name] wouldn’t get a nn, really. It’s a nice name, I’m just so over it. I wish I could like it, because it’s my brother’s name and I love him dearly, but I don’t think I’ll see [name]John[/name]'s appeal for a while, unless it’s a double-barrel (like [name]John[/name] [name]David[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Luke[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Mark[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Michael[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Micah[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Samuel[/name], etc.).
I like them both about the same. Personally, if it were me, I’d name him [name]John[/name] so that way if I decide he’s more of a [name]Jack[/name] I could call him that too. But since that’s not an option for you, I guess I’ll go with just [name]Jack[/name], because I like it slightly more today.
I do think that [name]Jack[/name] is pretty predictable but [name]John[/name] doesn’t have a nice sound [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] is adorable, and [name]Jack[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] would be pretty cute.
There are still a lot of baby Johns being born these days and lump that in with all the Johns from previous generations and that makes for a whole lot of Johns.
I prefer [name]Jack[/name], it has a trendier feel which I don’t care for, but overall it is refreshing, handsome and spunky. When I think of a little boy named [name]Jack[/name] running around, I picture a cute little rascal with big happy grin. When I picture a little [name]John[/name], I don’t get the same image.
I love [name]John[/name] [name]Edward[/name]!
However, if you like the fresher feeling of [name]Jack[/name], you may want to give [name]John[/name] a fresher middle?
[name]John[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] is one of the best sibsets I’ve heard in a long time.
