What do you think of [name_u]Marion[/name_u]?
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandma’s name was spelled [name_u]Marion[/name_u], so that’s the first thing I think of.
My grandma is named Marion. Back when she was young, it was considered a masculine name while Marian was feminine… she constantly got teased for the spelling of her name as a child. Now it’s looked at as more feminine than masculine.
While it was considered a great, strong masculine name when he was born, I can see why he did choose a stage name.
That’s funny we both have/had a grandma named [name_u]Marion[/name_u]. She never brought up anything positive or negative about her name. She was born sometime in the 1930s, though I’m not sure the actual year. Her family was British.
Hmmm… [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma was born in 1922 to an Irish father and French/Prussian/German mother in the US. Her grandparents on both sides were the ones who had immigrated here, if I remember correctly.
I have a female cousin named [name_u]Marion[/name_u], and I don’t think I’ve ever otherwise run into the name IRL, so I personally think of it as feminine.
Oh, and I also think of Maid [name_u]Marian[/name_u] from [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood.
I do like the name well enough though!
I love [name_u]Marion[/name_u] for a boy! It seems strong and gentle (and I love nearly all [name_u]Marian[/name_u] names).
I like it more than [name_u]John[/name_u]! [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is sweet and subtle and it has a very fresh vibe, for a boy. It’s still male-dominated in certain parts of Europe and I personally think it’d be super lovely on a boy today.
I love Marion! I like it best for girls. It reminds me of Maid Marian from Robin Hood, who I loved as a child.
