I’ve fallen for the southern charm of [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. I have always loved the song, especially the verse “your beauty is beyond compare with flaming locks of auburn hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green” which reminds me of [name_f]Merida[/name_f] from Brave a little. Is it too linked to the song though? I love it as a middle name with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. Where I’m from it isn’t as associated with the song but maybe in [name_u]America[/name_u] it is?
Thanks in advance x
It’s actually a family name for me. And the person who wears it is in her mid-50s, occasionally gets “[name_f]Jolene[/name_f]” sung to her, but overall not too much of an issue. It’s certainly unique, but in a familiar-sounding way. (And this is occurring in [name_u]America[/name_u], by the way.)
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is an interesting combination that I wouldn’t immediately think would work, but somehow it does. I think [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is nice with other “Southern charm” type names, maybe [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] or [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f].
I quite like it but it’s VERY [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m]… like maybe too [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m]. Not a bad thing necessarily, just a very strong association.
Are you from outside the US? (you mentioned it feeling Southern so I assume not). I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m British and it’s a massive association for me, but my family are very into music so… I don’t know?
I met a [name_f]Jolena[/name_f] recently (joe-LEEN-ah) which I quite like, maybe an alternative?
Yeah, I immediately think of the song too. I also quite like [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] as a name.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is so stylish, like giving your child a ready made stage name
I’m from [name_f]England[/name_f] by the way
[name_f]Jolena[/name_f] is actually really sweet!
And [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] sounds like a country singer, love it:)
Here in Germany it makes me think of the song a little, but probably no one else since country music is so unpopular and unknown here. As a matter of fact it is a name that hasn’t been used here until the 2000s and is now pretty popular and a very trendy choice. I don’t like it in Germany but do like the song association, so it could be nice somewhere where it isn’t so trendy.
I genuinley never thought [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] would be popular in Europe, thanks for the insight x
I’ve always loved the name and the song! [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is beautiful!
I love [name_f]Jolene[/name_f]. I am a HUGE country music fan, and love the song as well. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] is beautiful!! I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] as well
[name_f]Jolene[/name_f] would make a gorgeous first name too!! [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] [name_f]Ava[/name_f] would be pretty
I don’t care for it, honestly. The -een sound is very dated to the midcentury, in a bad way.
It is very associated with the song for me and, to be honest, it is a negative association. She (the girl in the song) doesn’t sound like a girl you’d want to be friends with.
She does sound like a bit of a man eater… I do love the nickname [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] but that’s a bit [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]-ish. I can’t win with this name.
