[name_m]Hi[/name_m], all! I’m turning to you! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] #3 is on her way in a couple months and we’re stumped. [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Crawford[/name_m] need a name for their sister (because their mama and daddy can’t agree!).
Mama loves:
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (mostly because she loves the shortened form of [name_f]Bea[/name_f]–except our last name translates to “bumblebee” in [name_m]German[/name_m], so daddy thinks this would be silly
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f]…the list goes on…
Daddy loves:
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (and that’s it. He’s stuck on this–mama is so-so)
Names that shorten to a cute, scrappy tomboy-ish nickname
And, one more thought…I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of using “[name_m]Bridge[/name_m]” as her middle name (for sweet love-story reasons). I think it might be nearly impossible to convince my husband is that this middle name is GREAT! Help me make it happen by pairing it with the perfect first name
Think he’d agree to use [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] as a middle instead? You still get the ‘[name_m]Bridge[/name_m]’ but it’s a well established female name (which he might like)?
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] might bridge (haha) the gap between his name style and yours. If he likes [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], you could use [name_f]Noa[/name_f] as a nickname (or [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]El[/name_f], etc.).
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] (I think [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] works better with [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] if you dislike [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f])
I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] best with [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (sweet, vintage, and doesn’t share the same ending as the other two). You can also call her [name_f]Mae[/name_f], so you get two in one.
I would definitely consider [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] or another variation, or see if there are names with the meaning bridge, as [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] might be tricky to work with. If you had another boy, [name_m]Bridger[/name_m] could be an option.
I love [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] from your list. I have a [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. If I had another girl, she would be:
[name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] is a shortform or nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. So is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. You could each call her what you like and by the time school rolls around she can choose what she wants to be called there. [name_u]Win[/name_u] win.
Wherever the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] can be found, there is a [name_f]Mae[/name_f] option. Actually, [name_f]Mae[/name_f] can by taken straight from [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] alone.
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
(I think it’s so beautiful!)
Other [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] names:
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margery[/name_f]/[name_f]Marjory[/name_f]/[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
I think this is perfect. He gets [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], you get [name_f]Mae[/name_f]–except instead of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I would go with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f].
It has the -a/ah ending so she won’t feel left out. It has a lovely feminine, vintage feel just like [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
AND [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is gorgeous.
I think that if you presented this to your husband, he’d be so thrilled to be getting [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and an accepted, female middle instead of [name_m]Bridge[/name_m], that he’d go for it. So you both get what you want. Well done @anyagreenwich!
I hope you like this suggestion (I’m pretty excited about it! LOL)
Your children have beautiful names! I love the idea of [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] as a middle name ([name_f]Bridget[/name_f] could be a good compromise if your husband prefers a longer name) Although, [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] has that surname-y feel that your other children’s middle names have, so you could always point that out to him.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] ([name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] - I love it!)
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] (very Irish…)
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] ([name_f]Aggie[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]…)
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]
Have you thought of [name_f]Margot[/name_f]? That seems like it could be the sweet spot between the vintage names you love and your husband’s request for [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I think it goes so well with [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] Bumblebee is just too much B (though I realise your last name doesn’t necessarily start with a B).
The first thing I thought of was [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]. [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. I really love it.
I really like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] from your list. Can be shortened to [name_f]Mae[/name_f], similar to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but doesn’t necessarily sound great with [name_m]Bridge[/name_m].
That brings me to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Could be [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_m]Moe[/name_m]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] is absolutely charming and goes right alongside [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Crawford[/name_m].
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] would also be a great alternative. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_m]Moe[/name_m].
I just wanted to say I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Great names.
I agree that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] would be cute with them.
What about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]? I know it’s a tad bit long with 5-letter [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] but that way you can call her [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and daddy gets to call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] And [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] sounds quite handsome, too. Also, the name has lots of variations and diminutives so there’s plenty to choose from if you’re not up for the original form.
I was also going to suggest naming her [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (which is one of my all-time favorites) and using the nickname [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. To me, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is sort of similar to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], so maybe it would satisfy you both.
