[name]Jonathan[/name] by a mile. If i didn’t already not care for [name]Jackson[/name], i’d so be over it by now. [name]Jonathan[/name] never gets old.
[name]Jonathan[/name] is classic. [name]Jackson[/name] = son of [name]Jack[/name]. Is your husbands name [name]Jack[/name]? That’s what I always think of when I meet a [name]Jackson[/name]
I voted [name]Jonathan[/name], mostly because it is a solid, classic name. [name]Jackson[/name] seems very trendy to me right now. [name]Every[/name] time I turn around there is another little boy named [name]Jackson[/name], or [name]Jaxon[/name], or [name]Jaxson[/name], etc. I do like [name]Jackson[/name] best of the spellings, but for me I prefer just [name]Jack[/name].
I voted for [name]Jackson[/name], but really I prefer just [name]Jack[/name]. [name]Jack[/name] is one of the few names that I continue to love, and would use, despite it’s popularity.
I much prefer [name]Jack[/name] as well. I like [name]Jonathan[/name] more than [name]Jackson[/name] and I would’ve voted for that, but I don’t think it makes much sense to have a [name]Jonathan[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name].
If you like [name]Jack[/name], just name him [name]Jack[/name]. I wouldn’t even bother with a long form you don’t plan to use.
In terms of popularity, the other posters make a good point. [name]Jackson[/name] is incredibly popular. If that’s something that bothers you I would definitely reconsider. I remember when I was in elementary school four of my friends’ parents all had little boys they named [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Jackson[/name]. And it’s still popular today. [name]Jonathan[/name] is a nice name. Classic, never gets old, will age well, yada yada. However, I’m not really a fan. It’s rather boring.
If you want a “J” name:
[name]Jensen[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Justin[/name]
[name]Jason[/name]
[name]Jase[/name]/[name]Jace[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] (although I think it’s gained in popularity in the last couple years)
and then my all time favorite boys name…
[name]James[/name] (great as a middle name)
I do prefer to use [name]Jack[/name] as a nickname, but only for [name]John[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name].
Most traditional formal form of [name]Jack[/name] is not [name]Jonathan[/name], it is [name]John[/name].
I love [name]Jonathan[/name] a lot. But I wouldn’t use [name]Jack[/name] as a NN for it, personally.
[name]Jackson[/name] I actively dislike.
[name]John[/name] has the advantage of being relatively underused compared to [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]Jackson[/name]/[name]Jaxon[/name] etc. and impeccably classic.
I voted for [name]Jonathan[/name] but I do like both.
I’d definitely prefer [name]Jonathan[/name]. I’m not a fan of 95% of …son names as first names, unless the kid is actually the 'son of… (in this case, [name]Jack[/name])(or at least the grandson of or something like that) and it’s honoring the family. To me ‘son’ names just have such a clear and obvious meaning. Plus [name]Jackson[/name] feels overly trendy to me. [name]Jonathan[/name] isn’t a name I’d actually choose, but it is one of those timeless classics that you can’t really go wrong with.
I agree with other posters. If you’re going to call him [name]Jack[/name], name him [name]Jack[/name] or at least [name]Jackson[/name]. That said, I much prefer [name]Jonathan[/name]. Classic, timeless name.
I voted for [name]Jonathan[/name] as I prefer it to [name]Jackson[/name], but I’m going to add my voice to the chorus: If you love [name]Jack[/name] (as I do - boy, do I ever), just name him [name]Jack[/name]. It’s enough name to stand on its own two feet.
