We are thinking of using the name [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]. I’d love to hear what people think, as we are 100% sold on it as yet.
Nice name. I like it!
Good, strong name. Traditional sounding, and obviously easy to pronounce. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a middle name picked out?
It’s great My cousin is a [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] (nicknamed Jono). I like that it’s traditional and yet still a bit different. I also like how many nicknames there are. A [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] could be [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_m]Jonny[/name_m], [name_m]Jon[/name_m], [name_m]Nate[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] etc.
I think if you’re going that route, [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] is the best choice, as it’s the slightly less common choice. My own family currently has about 6 "[name_m]John[/name_m]'s in it, so I personally steer clear of anything remotely like that; I feel like there enough of them in the world. If you go with [name_m]Jon[/name_m] as the nick name, people may think you’re referencing the Game of Thrones character; I don’t know if that would be a plus or negative to you.
I love [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]. Friends have a ten year-old with this name who they affectionately call JonJon. It is a handsome, strong name that would serve any male very well in life!
I like it!
I like [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] a lot. Have for ages. [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is the only way I’d spell the nickname though - [name_m]John[/name_m] is a completely different name to me.
I really like it. It is a relaxed classic, it doesn’t sound pretentious. It’s in keeping with picks like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], which I love, but [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is rising and [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]… isn’t. I’ve floated it on Nameberry before and the worst that people say is some find it a bit dull, and there was disagreement on [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Jonathon[/name_m]. Nothing huge or particularly problematic.
And I find [name_m]Jonny[/name_m] really cute on a young boy. And far, far less common than [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u], which are incredibly popular at least around where I live.
Great name. I know a 15 year old [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] who always uses the long form.
I guess I will the lone negative vote. I have never cared for [name_m]Jonathon[/name_m]. It seems dated to me as well.
I think it’s a lovely name. I know a little [name_m]German[/name_m] boy with this name but his family pronounces it [name_m]Yon[/name_m]-a-tan. Most people just pronounce it [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] though. They also called him Yonnie.
I like [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], I think it’s an underused classic these days with plenty of nicknames. I prefer the [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] spelling to any other, too.
It’s one of my favorite ‘normal’ boy names. I have a friend who everyone calls [name_m]Joe[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
