Thanks to those of you who replied to my first post!
I think we have narrowed down our choice to 2 names now: [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] was our early frontrunner (for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_m]Baker[/name_m]!). Dad really wants to be able to call her [name_u]JoJo[/name_u], and I find that adorable. Some members of my extended family hate this choice, but not sure how much I care about that. We can’t think of a really good middle name that flows with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (we’ve been defaulting to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] which is an overused family middle). We are both lukewarm on any middle names with it. Ideally it’s something shorter that flows well (he rejected the last suggestion I liked from NB, which was [name_f]Claire[/name_f]!).
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]: We would probably pair it with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and I love the way “[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]” sounds. Also love the meaning and have for a long time. It’s spell-able, still relatively uncommon, and conveys what I want for her in life (happiness!). But we don’t really like ANY nickname for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and it would give her the initials FRT.
My dilemma: she certainly FEELS like a [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] in there with all the dancing she’s doing, but for a full name I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] slightly better. I like the nickname of one and the full name of the other! I know the obvious choice is to name her [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]?) or vice versa, but we are not crazy about the names together.
So which do you like – [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and why?
I do think [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] is cute, but how long will she go by that? [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is so fun and pretty. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] doesn’t do much for me and I just hear the name [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], which doesn’t bring to mind much femininity. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] dances off the tongue and doesn’t need a nickname. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful. What about [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u]?
I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] over [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but I think both names are lovely and timeless. If you are attached to [name_u]JoJo[/name_u], and would call her by a nickname for often than her full name, I advocate for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It also gives her the option to go by [name_u]Josie[/name_u] if she doesn’t want her friends and teachers to call her [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], mostly because it is so long. I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is fantastic, though.
I you plan to call her a formal name more often than a nickname, I would go with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a beautiful name.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is gorgeous!!! I adore [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] but it’s becoming increasingly popular while [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is still relatively underused, if you’re concerned about popularity.
I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Endless possibilities for nicknames, [name_u]Jojo[/name_u], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Joey[/name_u], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], Finny, etc.
I love both lf these names. I would call her [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and call her [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] as a nn, love it. But if you’re so opposed I would say [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] are both lovely alternatives but I typically cringe when I hear that family members are weighing in, if they don’t like it, then they didn’t use it on one of their children… you get to choose now. If she feels like a [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] to you and your partner then by all means call her that, if your family doesn’t like it then they’ll get over it, they’ll see the baby, associate the name and come to termed with it. Honestly I have a list of names we plan to use at this point, though one still feels like a maybe, like our other kids names are classy and much like the names you’ve chosen and I’m currently debating that, we are still thinking over a couple for each gender while ttc but I always catch myself thinking, will this upset everyone, people might really not like this name but they’ll like it eventually, they’ll like the nn and they’ll get over it quickly and that’s comforting. I think your choices are lovely and that you should really just say them together however in your combinations a lot and see what feels really right, and if you ever have a second girl the you can maybe use whatever didn’t get chosen this time. You’ll know you loved it as much it just wasn’t the firsts name. Good luck and congrats!
Nicknames for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]:
[name_f]Flick[/name_f]
[name_u]Fee[/name_u]
Fliss
If it helps, I think that [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] would make lovely sister names! Maybe you could use one now and save the other for a future daughter? Good luck! You can’t go wrong with either choice!
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] definitely gets my vote. We have [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] on our short list, as well. I actually really like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], though, and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] is great.
Both are lovely, elegant, vintage and classic names that would wear well on any girl. I personally like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] better, but this is about what you want, not me! [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] is a cute nickname, and I disagree with the fact that it doesn’t age well- what about [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] Moyes, author of Me Before You, or [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] from The Bachelorette? I don’t think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] needs a nickname, but you could use [name_u]Fee[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], Lissy, [name_f]Lissa[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Fey[/name_f] at a stretch? (pronounced like [name_f]Fay[/name_f], as in fairy) For a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] combo, what about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? It feels a bit more different and spunky. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] doesn’t flow perfectly but if those are the two names you love, that’s as good a reason to use it as any. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] variant, like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], would be nice too. I also love the suggestion of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] though!
Both are lovely names! I prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u], Phi or Sephie as a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] is kind of cute. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] isn’t bad by any means, but it is rather long. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Here are a few other ideas:
Both names are beautiful but I slightly prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a great combo, although [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] has been growing on me lately. I personally like the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u] for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] but [name_u]JoJo[/name_u] is absolutely adorable as well and it sounds like you really like the name. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], I think it has a great flow and is another lovely flower name to go with a beautiful first name.
I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is lovely.
I don’t like any of these as much, but just in case…
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] by a mile! [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is frumpy and stuffy to me, and I dislike [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and am not generally a huge fan of feminizations of male names. I think the nickname [name_f]Lissie[/name_f] is lovely! Cici is another unconventional nickname idea.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] definitely gets my vote! I also like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and the combo of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but must admit that I do not like nn [name_u]Jojo[/name_u]/[name_u]JoJo[/name_u] at all, however, because it reminds me of thick cut potato fries and dancing monkies, and the early 2000s pop singer. All of which could be good things to other people, of course.
