Josephine's baby brother

We are expecting a second baby and won’t find out the gender ahead of time, but just like last time, we are stuck on boy names. Our last name ends in ‘y’, so I’d rather avoid names (or inevitable nicknames) ending in ‘y’ or ‘ie’. I’d also like to avoid -son and -den names. Here’s my list of ideas, I like many but nothing pops out as IT.

[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Charles[/name] - [name]Charlie[/name] (I know -ie but I love it)
[name]Mack[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Otis[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name] (would people automatically call him [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddie[/name]- I can’t stand them, but we love [name]Edmond[/name])

[name]Graham[/name], [name]Desmond[/name], or [name]Sebastian[/name]! All fantastic names with history and some LENGTH! [name]Just[/name] like [name]Josephine[/name]. [name]Desmond[/name] is particularly interesting. Unfortunately, I think [name]Edmond[/name] would become [name]Ed[/name] to people, even if it wasn’t an official nickname. [name]Eamon[/name] is an alternative that wouldn’t get shortened, but it doesn’t really go with [name]Josephine[/name].

Congrats!
I love [name]Josephine[/name] by the way so I’m sure you’ll find a name just as gorgeous. I think that because [name]Josephine[/name] screams vintage classic name you should go along those lines to create a perfect sibling set, that sounds great together. Visually [name]Josephine[/name] is a rather lengthly classic thus I think you need to go with a name of similar length. [name]Otis[/name] despite being lovely I do believe is too short with [name]Josephine[/name] for example.
From your list I think the names that sound/look the best with [name]Josephine[/name]…
[name]William[/name] -
[name]William[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Sebastian[/name] (despite not being a personal favourite the name looks good with [name]Josephine[/name]) -
[name]Sebastian[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Charles[/name] (despite not being a personal favourite, [name]Charles[/name] works with [name]Josephine[/name]) -
[name]Charles[/name] & Jospehine

Those are my three favourites with [name]Josephine[/name] from your list

Here are some suggestions:
[name]Nathaniel[/name] -
[name]Nathaniel[/name] & Jospehine

[name]Vincent[/name] -
[name]Vincent[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Rupert[/name] -
[name]Rupert[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Alexander[/name] -
[name]Alexander[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Samuel[/name] -
[name]Samuel[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

[name]Emmanuel[/name] -
[name]Emmanuel[/name] & [name]Josephine[/name]

I love [name]Sebastian[/name]! And like: [name]Cole[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Edmond[/name] (though I vastly prefer [name]Edmund[/name].) I don’t think [name]Edmond[/name] will automatically call him [name]Ed[/name]/[name]Eddie[/name], I think people spend a lot of time worrying about nickname when they only really arise if parent’s are heard calling there child that and can definitely be avoided if that’s what the parent wishes. Other ideas: [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Kade[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Killian[/name], [name]Keir[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Xander[/name], [name]Lex[/name], [name]Lee[/name]?

I like [name]Josephine[/name] with [name]Graham[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]William[/name]. However, with [name]William[/name] being so popular, I’ll drop that one and “vote” for just [name]Graham[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name].

[name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are lovely together!

Out of the names on your list I really love [name]Desmond[/name], [name]Edmond[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]William[/name] with [name]Josephine[/name]. I think the majority fit stylistically with [name]Josephine[/name]. My favorites for you are [name]Desmond[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]. [name]Both[/name] sound great with [name]Josephine[/name], neither are extremely common, and they have substance.

If your considering other names I think [name]Emmett[/name] would fit nicely as well. It’s has a similar softness to [name]Josephine[/name], while still remaining classic.

Good luck!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] with [name]Josephine[/name]! Does [name]Josephine[/name] go by a nn? I love the nn [name]Ian[/name] for [name]Sebastian[/name].

[name]Graham[/name], [name]Caspar[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Desmond[/name], and [name]Felix[/name] go best with [name]Josephine[/name]. [name]Edmund[/name] will be [name]Ed[/name], pretty much inevitably. [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]William[/name] work ok, too, but they are overused to me and lack the sparkle of [name]Josephine[/name].

[name]Caspar[/name] is bold. I love it but it’s bold. Other kids your son’s age won’t remember the friendly ghost but adults will.

I like [name]Desmond[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]William[/name], and [name]Oscar[/name]. My favorite with [name]Josephine[/name] would be [name]Desmond[/name] with the nickname [name]Des[/name]. It’s so handsome and classy. Great choice! I’d love to see it used!

My pick would be [name]William[/name] or [name]Sebastian[/name].

With beautiful, regal [name]Josephine[/name], I love the unusual formality of [name]Desmond[/name] or [name]Edmond[/name]! Or you could split the difference with [name]Esmond[/name], an old English name meaning “grace and protection.” [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] is quite traditional but also completely lovely and endearing, and it would offset [name]Josephine[/name] nicely.

Many fabulous names here, but I think some of them feel a little trendy next to uber-substantial [name]Josephine[/name]. In another sibset I’d be rooting for [name]Felix[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Otis[/name], [name]Caspar[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]Mack[/name], but with [name]Josephine[/name] they sound too [name]Brooklyn[/name] hipster to me.
Less wild about [name]Everett[/name], [name]Cole[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], and [name]Graham[/name] - I find them a bit lackluster next to [name]Jo[/name].

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses! I’m excited about all the love for Desmond. I’ve narrowed the original list to these five. Josephine’s nickname is JoJo.

Everett
Charles - Charlie
Desmond
Sebastian
William

Husband and I just sat and went through some more lists and added these five that he and I both like.
Ansel
Germain
Hugo - I thought a little matchy with JoJo but he thinks not
(The explanation for these three is that I love Josephine for its vintage feel, but for my husband it’s much more about the French origin. We went through lists of French boy names and Hugo, Ansel and Germaine were two that I could handle)
Marcus
Augustus - he is very excited about this and agreed to the nn Gus

Thoughts?

I’m liking all those updated options. If I had to pick a top 3 for [name]Josephine[/name]'s brother, I’d be drawn to (in no order):

  1. [name]Sebastian[/name]
  2. [name]Germain[/name]
  3. [name]Augustus[/name]

I like [name]Sebastian[/name] the best from your list, although [name]Desmond[/name] is great too. I love tori101’s suggestion of [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]!

[name]Desmond[/name] is my favorite from your list!
Have you considered [name]Malcolm[/name] or [name]Calvin[/name]?

My favorites of your choices:

[name]Charles[/name] (my husband is a [name]Charles[/name] and goes by [name]Chaz[/name])
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name] (not as vintage, but I like them together)
[name]Edmond[/name] (love this spelling)

[name]How[/name] about [name]Malcolm[/name], nn [name]Mack[/name]? Or [name]Cormac[/name], nn [name]Mack[/name]? [name]Everett[/name], [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are also good.

I like [name]Desmond[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] (a name that popped in my head before seeing the list), [name]William[/name], [name]Charles[/name]
Some other names that I think have the same feel as [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] this helped!

Thanks again everyone. We are really leaning toward [name]Desmond[/name], followed by [name]Charles[/name], [name]Everett[/name], and [name]Germain[/name]. So many great suggestions. I have a great uncle named [name]Malcolm[/name] nn [name]Mac[/name] that I’m very fond of, but hubbs doesn’t like it.
