Josina

Anyone ever see this name before? I recently found it in my family tree, it was my great-grandpa’s aunt. Dutch family - anyone have name origins?

Also, what do you think of it with the potential nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u]?

I also have a Josina in my family tree! Someone correct me if I’m wrong but from memory Josina is a Hebrew name. I remember reading somewhere that it’s Frisian shortening of [name_f]Josefine[/name_f], which is the [name_m]German[/name_m] form of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. I don’t like the meaning “god will add another son” … Seems like an odd meaning for a girls name although I know that [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is the female version of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].

I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to Josina. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] would work as a nn for either though.

It’s cute. I’ve come across it before, just like [name_f]Josette[/name_f] and [name_f]Josepha[/name_f]. I like Josina better than any of the other options.

Nope…
but I know some [name_f]Josanne[/name_f]'s.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a great nickname for Josina as I called my [name_f]Josanne[/name_f] by the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u]

You know, I was thinking about this after I posted and it makes complete sense for it to be a short form of [name_f]Josefine[/name_f]. I just found somewhere that said the meaning is “God will multiply”, which is similar to the “God will add another son” meaning. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] does mean “he will add”, so I guess this all makes sense in a way.

giinkies - You have a daughter named [name_f]Josanne[/name_f]? [name_f]Josanne[/name_f] is a pretty name!
