Jovie sounding like Jody

My husband and I a really considering naming our daughter [name_f]Jovie[/name_f]. We know it’s not a common name so we are have some trouble committing. So, to get an idea of a response of the name, I went to Starbucks and when they asked my name - I said [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] - the barista said “ok [name_u]Jody[/name_u], we will have your drink ready in a minute”

Are we going to consistently have to repeat/clarify the name and will she have to do the same when she gets older? Or am I overreacting?

I think these types of mix-ups are common with unfamiliar names. My friend [name_f]Anjali[/name_f] often gets [name_f]Angela[/name_f] on her Starbucks cups, and I know a [name_f]Cora[/name_f] that’s gotten [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Corey[/name_u], and [name_u]Cody[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Jovie[/name_f]! It’s such a great name. It’s possible it might be misheard in a place like Starbucks, but i think in most cases people would get it

That was brilliant to put a Starbucks order under [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] as a road test.

In regards to the name and whether it will lead to confusion, I think that’s possible with every name. My name is [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] and I am called [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] 25% of the time, even by people who have known me for years.

In other words, I wouldn’t let one barista dampen your love for a name.

I swear Starbucks get names wrong on purpose. I’ve not had my name, [name_u]Jean[/name_u], ever spelled correctly at Starbucks. And it’s not [name_f]Jeanne[/name_f] or [name_u]Gene[/name_u]; it’s goofy, ridiculous spellings. But at most other restaurants they spell it correctly or mistake it for [name_u]Jan[/name_u].

Many names sound like other names.

If [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] is the name you both feel is The One, go for it.

She’ll just have to clarify spelling of her name over the phone often, but most people do. I wouldn’t be concerned.
