[name]Hi[/name] Berries!
What are your thoughts on [name]Joyce[/name]? It has a beautiful meaning, and I think it rolls of the tongue quite nicely. Is [name]Joyce[/name] ready for a comeback? Or is it still a little too ‘middle-aged librarian?’

I had a Great Aunt [name]Joyce[/name] and I also know an older [name]Joyce[/name] who is a friend of my parents. I do think it is a little dated for that reason, but it would be a refreshing I think on a little girl today! It would be nice if some older names reappeared, it’s way better than all the misspellings and “unique” names popping up.
I knew a lovely, lovely woman named [name]Joyce[/name], once upon a time. [name]Even[/name] with that good connotation, it still feels a little ‘holiday sweater.’ It might be an option for a middle name, though.
Your Name of the [name]Day[/name], on the other hand, and every one of your runners up, are gorgeous!
Sorry, I’m not a fan. It does remind me of [name]James[/name] [name]Joyce[/name], but then, I’m not a fan of surnames on girls. I like [name]Joy[/name] and [name]Gioia[/name] better.
Thanks for your kind words! And also, LOL about the holiday sweater comment. I think it’s the best ‘frumpy’ image I’ve heard on Nameberry. Haha!
[name]Joyce[/name] is my husband’s grandmother, a cranky woman with a heart of gold. But still, cranky. That would give me some pause before using it myself, but I think I would actually like to see it on someone else’s little girl. I lump it together with the names [name]Nancy[/name] and [name]Betty[/name]–all names that felt so fusty when I was growing up, but now I’m curious to see how they would look on a child.
I’m not a fan of it. It’s still too little old lady-ish to me. As a first name, I don’t think it’s ready for a comeback, but I do think it would make a nice middle name.
I am there with you… on some level… I have campaigned for the return of Judith, for goodness’s sake. And Judith is, honestly, pretty on par with Joyce for most people, I’m pretty sure. But I happen to like the prim -th like Elspeth and Elizabeth, and Judy feels upbeat and sweetly rockabilly, rather like Betty and Susie. A bit happier, somehow, than Joyce.
Also, blame kreative namers, but I can no longer really enjoy many y’s in the middles of names, even where they are traditional. I know that’s strange of me. Blythe is a slight exception - I think that might be the -th fighting the y, haha - and it also means happiness.
For the happiness meaning, I think my favourites are: Felicity, Letitia/Laetitia, Beatrice, and Naomi. I know Beatrice/Beatrix feels just as old to many people as Joyce, though.
firstly, to the PP I must say that i adore [name]Judith[/name] and will be on your campaign team
Secondly, I love [name]Joyce[/name] so much. I think it is a very sweet name, and as many people do, the most amazing lady I’ve come into contact with in my life is named [name]Joyce[/name] therfore i would genuinly consider using it in the future.
However, i would use [name]Joy[/name] as a nickname mainly.
[name]Joyce[/name] is wonderful. I too prefer [name]Judith[/name] as a vintage comeback, but [name]Joyce[/name] has her own charms. I would be delighted to hear about a baby [name]Joyce[/name]
[name]Joyce[/name] is one name i haven’t thought of making a comeback, but now that i have i think its totally ready!! [name]Joyce[/name] could be such a spunky, sweet surprise on a little girl these days and it’s completely something she could grow into as a woman.
I’m not sure it’s quite ready but would be fine as a middle name. I don’t think middle aged but old lady but doesn’t have the same vibe as [name]Florence[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Agnes[/name] etc.
Fellow [name]Judith[/name] lovers, unite! LOL. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Judith[/name]/[name]Judy[/name] also and would seriously consider that one myself. Along with [name]Betty[/name] and [name]Susie[/name] ([name]Susannah[/name]) as well. Interesting insight on the ‘y’ in the middle phenomenon. I completely understand what you’re saying. Now kre8ive spellers aren’t only ruining the names they butcher, but other legit names as well! Augh!
