Judah vs. Jude?

I’ve been thinking about adding both of these to my list, but am torn as to which one to go for–which do you prefer personally? A little while ago I just about swore off [name_u]Jude[/name_u] in favor of cuddly [name_m]Judah[/name_m], but lately I’ve really been drawn to [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I like it’s sleek feel.

Combo ideas for the FN you prefer the most? So far I’ve tossed around [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]/[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], but something’s putting me off. I’d considered [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] in the past…

I pick [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I don’t know why I don’t like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] as much

[name_m]Judah[/name_m] strikes me as a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] faith name (along the lines of [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] etc.); which is not inherently a good or bad thing, but may help you decide if you want a name with that association or you do not. You could always go for [name_m]Judah[/name_m] nicknamed [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and get the best of both worlds. As for middle names, I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] sounds best from your list!

I prefer [name_m]Judah[/name_m]

I prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] a lot and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] sounds nice as well.

I don’t know if there are religious considerations for you. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] leans more Jewish and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is more [name_m]Christian[/name_m] due to the [name_m]Saint[/name_m] by that name. [name_m]Judas[/name_m] has a lot of baggage. Good luck.

Thanks, everyone! As for the religious questions, I have no real issues with either assumption. [name_u]Jude[/name_u], to me, feels more English while [name_m]Judah[/name_m] feels more Biblical, although my denomination doesn’t really do saints so the tie to the saint really holds no meaning for me. The [name_m]Christian[/name_m] significance of [name_m]Judah[/name_m]/[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is half of the appeal for me, though.

With the exception of MAYBE [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u], I think all the combos I tossed around in the past are out–for one reason or another, I’m just not feeling them anymore (I love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], but I can’t really see ME with a [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], if that makes sense). So if anyone has any suggestions, that would be fantastic.

Thanks, Berries!

I prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and quite like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u]

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u] is lovely! I prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u] over [name_m]Judah[/name_m], although I don’t dislike either name.

I much prefer [name_m]Judah[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] better.

I prefer [name_m]Judah[/name_m] - as much as I love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] just sounds more like a full name to me  But, like a previous poster said, you could use [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and have [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as a nickname.

I much prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u], it seems sleeker and more versitile, fit for any age, profession and personality.
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] always reminds me of [name_m]Judas[/name_m] and while I’m not religious, it still gives off the wrong vibe to me.

I personally prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I adore [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. But I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. Have you considered [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Maxim[/name_m]/[name_m]Maksim[/name_m]?

Thanks, everyone! I’m surprised, because here it seems like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is the fan favorite, although I always thought that [name_u]Jude[/name_u] was a huge [name_u]Berry[/name_u] favorite and expected it to win in a poll (which is why I haven’t posted about [name_m]Judah[/name_m]/[name_u]Jude[/name_u] until now! Apparently I was completely wrong, lol.). I’m sort of leaning toward [name_u]Jude[/name_u] at this point, but I could be convinced if I found the right [name_m]Judah[/name_m] combo. There’s a story of [name_m]Judah[/name_m], the brother of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and the son of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], in the Bible, that really shows his redemptive arc for me (he was willing to offer his life for [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]‘s in a test that [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] gave to see if his brothers’ hearts had really changed when he saw them again in [name_u]Egypt[/name_u]), and [name_m]Judah[/name_m] sort of represents [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] to me, thanks to one of his titles (the [name_m]Lion[/name_m] of [name_m]Judah[/name_m]). I like it for religious reasons a lot. But sometimes I go off of it because I get [name_m]Judah[/name_m] Friedlander’s face stuck in my head and I can’t see an adorable little boy with the name. Over the years I’ve gone back and forth between the two. But you guys are right, I could totally do [name_m]Judah[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and have the best of both worlds. And there’s some really cute little boys named [name_m]Judah[/name_m] if you search on google lol (including one that looks eerily like my little brother when he was a toddler!). In the past I’ve always felt like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] was more my style of name, but I think I got put off of it when I fell out-of-love with [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], and still haven’t found anything I really love with [name_m]Judah[/name_m]. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a maybe, but so is [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]…

Does anyone have any really fantastic [name_m]Judah[/name_m] combo suggestions?

Thanks, [name_u]Jean[/name_u]! No, I hadn’t considered [name_m]Maxim[/name_m]/[name_m]Maksim[/name_m]/[name_u]Maxime[/name_u]–I like it okay, but like [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] and [name_f]Maxima[/name_f] more, and [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] still does sort of remind me of the magazine, which I don’t consider to be the best association. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] is nice, though. I’ll think about it.

I actually love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], too, and if it weren’t already @eoxima’s combo, I’d probably consider it again. I don’t like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] anywhere near as much as I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I thought about [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] long before I saw it in her signature, but now it feels like her combo, and I feel odd taking it. Plus, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] are growing on me quite a lot. I guess we’ll see. Plus, I think [name_m]Eli[/name_m]- names can honor my sister, since her MN shares a lot of similar sounds in the beginning ([name_f]Eileen[/name_f]). I’m also thinking about [name_m]Lion[/name_m] as a second MN in her honor, too, or maybe [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] (my options are fairly limited for Rebecc@ E!leen!).

I much prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I absolutely love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is a great combo as well! Here are others I like (that are a bit all over the place!):

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Ellington[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m]

I’m fine with all over the place–I’m a little that way myself! I suggested [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] to a friend the other day, and she didn’t like it, but I fell for it, so I tried out [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] today, but wasn’t quite as in love as I was with just [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I’m not sure about [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]–it could grow on me. I do like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] a lot, though! And [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] intrigue me. Thank you for the suggestions!

I think you are right. I’m feel much the same.

If you like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but don’t think it’s necessarily the name for your boy, there are names with a similar feel like [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_m]Israel[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m], [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m], [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] etc.

I found some helpful lists on this site:

Good luck!

Anyone feel like making some suggestions for [name_m]JUST[/name_m] [name_m]Judah[/name_m]? The more I think about it, the more I’m leaning toward [name_m]Judah[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]–it does seem like the best of both worlds! I’ve always struggled with coming up with a good [name_m]Judah[/name_m] combo, though. :frowning:

Some suggestions for you:

[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Alexi[/name_u]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u]

I’d recommend middle names with emphasis on the second syllable for [name_m]Judah[/name_m]. You could always look up some Gaelic names, because more of those tend to have emphasis on the second syllable than more “American” names.
