Jude Law(son)?

Hey all, I was a frequent lurker a few years back and now I need some help.
Currently 16wks with my first and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is one of my favorites for a boy. My father ([name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]) has always wanted me to use the middle [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] after him. Then I realized the [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] connection.

Is [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] just too ridiculous? Is there any other way to honor [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] without using the exact name - neither me nor my dad like it!

Thanks in advance.

You could use names related to his birth month (the actual month, birthstone, birth flower, season, etc); a favorite vacation spot or place he lived, his middle name, a name he wished he was named, names with a similar meaning to his first or middle names, favorites (color, animals, food, treat, etc), a name based on a nickname or pet name he had/has, he could choose a middle name, …

[name_f]Honesty[/name_f] I do not think there is too much concern with [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m]. Most of the time people do not know other people’s middle names. There would be more pause if your surname was [name_m]Lawson[/name_m].

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] is fine as he will be known as [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (last name). We don’t use our middle names except for legal documents or to fill in registration forms, etc. so it’s a non-issue [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I really like both [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] and even if someone did point out how close it is to [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] it is not the same name and not a terrible thing anyway. Go for it!

I don’t think it matters. I doubt your son’s peers will know who [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] is. If in doubt, use [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] which flows really nicely.

I agree with the points made by previous posters, and since it’s a family name, that trumps any concerns. Plus, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] is rather handsome.

I don’t think it’s a problem. Someone will notice and say something silly, but someone can always come up with something to say about any name. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] are both lovely names and it’s so sweet and meaningful that your dad has chosen the middle name. Go for it! Congratulations!

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] is cute and I don’t think it is a problem. If you needed a suggestion for how to honor [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] still, I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u] from laWRENce.

Thanks for all your help! I’m sure you understand the struggle of overthinking names. I think it’s just too special of a name to me to change it or not use it, so [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] will remain our front runner.

Part of me wants to say yes, it’s too close to [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m]… But we have [name_f]Miren[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] on our list so ”
And yes, I have struggled with the [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_u]Mirren[/name_u] association and I’m just not sure how I feel about it, haha.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] is not an enormous presence these days, not like he one was about a decade ago. If [name_u]Jude[/name_u] & [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] speak to you, then go for it.

Maybe [name_m]Laurent[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]? [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Laurent[/name_m] sounds really cool!

I don’t think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] would be too much of an issue. However if you do end up wanting another alternative some other names that are related to [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] are… [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], [name_m]Enzo[/name_m], [name_m]Lars[/name_m], & [name_m]Laurent[/name_m]

You may like to consider another version of [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] like [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m], [name_m]Laurenz[/name_m], [name_m]Lars[/name_m]. These names are European versions. You may like [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]. A different can make all the difference.

I like the suggestion of [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] as an alternate spelling. I actually like the look and sound of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] better than [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m], plus [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] is much closer to the honor name.

Having said that, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Lawson[/name_m] is perfectly fine.
