Judging these names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

Follow these forums but have never posted before. Nice to meet you!
We would like some opinions on names we are thinking about.

The two boy names we have agreed on are [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. We both truly love them and would be happy with either, but I am not sure what they come off as to a stranger, nor if they sound ok with the middle and last name.

The middle name will be [name_m]Robert[/name_m], and our last name sounds very Irish (similar to [name_m]McDonald[/name_m]).

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] these names sound ok together? There are definitely names that flow together but I just want to make sure [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] ([name_m]McDonald[/name_m]) or [name_m]Asher[/name_m] ([name_m]McDonald[/name_m]) are not totally clashing or sound odd when called on in school, written on papers, etc.

  2. What do you think of when you see [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and/or [name_m]Asher[/name_m] as a name in general?

Input would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

ps. The girl name we have picked is [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Mira[/name_f]).

Congrats to you and welcome to Nameberry! I think both names are fine with your surname but when the mn [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is taken into consideration, my first choice would be [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] ([name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] has repetitive “er” sounds). [name_m]Asher[/name_m] is a fine Blbical name that sounds quite contemporary and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] has a lot of vintage charm so you can’t go wrong with either of them. You can always bring both names to the hospital with you and decide when you meet him. Having an alternative name is a good idea. I like your girls choice [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. Let us know what you name him by announcing his arrival on the Birth Announcements Forum. Good luck!

Honestly, I think both names are great. I love [name_m]Robert[/name_m] as a middle and both first names have great flow with your last name. You can’t go wrong. Personally, I think I like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] a bit more though. I think it is handsome, strong and very masculine (more so than [name_m]Asher[/name_m]). I love your girl name. I have the sweetest baby [name_f]Mira[/name_f], who is now 3!

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are really nice names and sound fine with your last name. [name_m]Asher[/name_m] has been on trend for a while, so I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] would be the more unique choice. And [name_m]Asher[/name_m] kind of blends into [name_m]Robert[/name_m], so I think [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] sounds better.

[name_f]Miranda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is one of my top picks for a girl name! Congrats!

Thank you! I was worried that [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] ([name_m]McDonald[/name_m]) (our actual last name is hard to pronounce from how it looks, but it sounds similar) sounded odd for some reason but I feel better.
