Julia versus Elizabeth

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Nameberry friends

I would like to ask your opinion on two name options for our daughter due in [name_f]April[/name_f] 2019.

Surname is Stevens

Our first choice has been [name_f]JULIA[/name_f] [name_f]ROSE[/name_f] [name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f] Stevens

But also considering [name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f] as the first name (family name)
[name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f] [name_f]ROSE[/name_f] [name_f]JULIA[/name_f]
[name_f]ELIZABETH[/name_f] [name_f]JULIA[/name_f] [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]

I think I honestly prefer [name_f]Julia[/name_f] as a standalone first name (which she will be known as) but I wanted to get the opinion of non-family/close friends; particularly if one of these is your name.

I want to choose a first name that gives her a head start and is not a burden. It is much more important to me that my daughter love her name than that we use a grandmother’ s name, but I know many people feel [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a pretty name in its own right.

Opinions please!

I wanted to create a Poll on this forum but couldn’t figure out how to do it. Please help!

It is a tradition in my husband’s family to give two middle names

I’d go with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think her name will be more distinct then [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] whilst still being recognizable.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] , [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ,[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] , [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would also be great if you still aren’t 100% sure.

I agree [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my pick of the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] options.
Are you into nicknames? because [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has some great choices which may sway you.

100% [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Stevens

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] is beautiful name. The positioning of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is actually really important in the name. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are both short and work well positioned together. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] then being longer works better positioned in front of the surname. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is just too short of a name before the surname if you want 2 middle names

I love [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]!

My sister in law is a [name_f]Julia[/name_f] - it’s such a pretty name and ages really well. She gets called [name_f]Julia[/name_f] most of the time, then either [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or [name_u]Jule[/name_u].

I love both names and it might partly come down to whether you like nicknames. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is much richer for nicknames than [name_f]Julia[/name_f]. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is great if you generally want her to be called by her full name.

I like the middles in this order:

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

Good luck deciding!

I prefer [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], such a lovely name.

Another vote for [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Julia[/name_f] as the first name. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is lovely but more common.

I like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

If you wanted to combine [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] really splits the difference. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a shorter path to the same vibe [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I adore [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

I would use whatever name is NOT an honor name as the first. So, if [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are grandmothers, I’d use [name_f]Julia[/name_f] as a first. I think it’s lovely to have an honor name in the middle and your very own name up front as your identity. It gives the name some gravity but still lets the child be an individual, plus keeps family names fresh!

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the best combo [name_f]IMO[/name_f] but as a name I prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], as it’s classic with loads of nickname potential.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], [name_f]Beth[/name_f]

I really don’t think either name would be a burden, but I love how [name_f]Julia[/name_f] sounds with your surname.

I agree that [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Stevens is best! It’s gorgeous! I think if you’re planning on calling her [name_f]Julia[/name_f], then I would put that first, as it would minimize situations where you’ll have to explain what she’s called? Sure, they may not be hard conversations, lol, but if [name_f]Julia[/name_f] Stevens is what’s written down, it’s a no-brainer to call her [name_f]Julia[/name_f]? Plus, [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is unspeakably gorgeous, and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is SO classic, dainty, sweet, and charming! I’d love to meet one–or have one myself! haha.

All the best!

I’m actually a [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and I’ve always loved my name! Not to toot my own horn, haha, but I love that it has history behind it and is timeless. Everyone knows how to spell it, but I’ve never met more than three or four other [name_m]Julias[/name_m]. And I love my nn, [name_u]Jules[/name_u].

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is stunning!

I agree with a previous poster that family names should stay in the mn so the fn can stay individual! [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is definitely a beautiful name and not as common as [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! If you like nn, you can still use a nn derived from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] even though it’s a mn. I don’t think there are any rules to a nn.

I think that you should use [name_f]Julia[/name_f] as the first name, given you say clearly in your post that you like it better than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and want to call her [name_f]Julia[/name_f] in everyday life. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a beautiful combination, classic and elegant and sweet. I personally like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] better than [name_f]Julia[/name_f], but this is your daughter so the first name should be the name you love best!
