[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
I love both of these names - but I have a dilemma.
I love the prettiness and femininity of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], but I don’t like the nickname [name_u]Jules[/name_u]. Would it be avoidable? I like the nicknames [name_u]Julie[/name_u] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] however.
I love [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], and also the nickname [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. However, it does not flow as well with the surname, which also ends in the -an sound that [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] has.
I’ve loved [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] for longer, but [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is just stunning. It feels so floaty and feminine, but I don’t like [name_u]Jules[/name_u] too much. And would the R&J comments be constant?
So, overall, I’d appreciate if you guys could let me know which is better for me.
personally speaking i don’t think juliet “jules” would be that intuitive. i mean it works, but unless someone specifically asked me to call them jules i wouldn’t really think to do it. julie would be my first thought, so you shouldn’t worry. the r&j thing is also definitely not the first thing that pops into mind either, i’ve known a juliet who’s never had that issue so i don’t think it should be a deal breaker.
as for jillian, i think that if you really love the name it shouldn’t be that big of an issue that your surname is similar! although from the way you talk about both the names, something in me is telling me deep down you like juliet better
It’s complicated - I started out loving [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] more, then loved [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] because it reminded me of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], but now I’m back onto [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
I feel like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is the clear winner here. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is C@thryn NN [name_f]Cat[/name_f]. I’ve had a handful of people try to call me [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] over the years. I just correct them and offer them [name_f]Cat[/name_f] instead. I’ve had no issues. I think you can definitely avoid [name_u]Jules[/name_u] as long as you have an alternative like [name_u]Julie[/name_u] that you prefer and can offer to people.
Yes! [name_u]Julie[/name_u] is my nickname of choice, but I also love [name_f]Jill[/name_f] for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
I feel I can get the best of both worlds with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]!
Since you have other nicknames in mind that, at least in the case of [name_u]Julie[/name_u], are equally if not more intuitive than [name_u]Jules[/name_u] it shouldn’t be too hard to avoid it from other people but there is always the possibility she chooses to use it herself. I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is becoming mainstream enough to distance it from [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] but there might be a few comments here and there.
Wether or not the similar ending of [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] with your surname sounds bad would depend on the exact name but most of the examples I can think don’t have bad enough flow to be a dealbreaker.
I slightly prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] because its one of my own long time loves, but [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is also great and I appreciate that it feels more unexpected because it seems to be on less people’s lists.
It’s incredibly tough, because both are such great names. You couldn’t go wrong.
I think I’m going to make the case for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. As you’ve said, you’ve loved it longer. I would actually be willing to wager that it’s more timeless, as it seems to fly under the radar and tends not to trend, while [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is in a trend phase right now. I don’t think [name_u]Jules[/name_u] is completely unavoidable, as it would be the more trending nickname over [name_u]Julie[/name_u]. But again, [name_f]Jill[/name_f] is timeless, so another point for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. Having a last name ending in -n isn’t a dealbreaker. I DO think [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] & [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] comments would be a common thing for any [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] to deal with.
That’s interesting! I didn’t realise that [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] was more timeless than [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], nor that [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] was in a trend phase. That’s disappointing that [name_u]Jules[/name_u] isn’t completely unavoidable, but I really do love [name_f]Jill[/name_f] for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]!
Juliet is gorgeous and Jules wouldn’t be my go to nickname. Neither of the Juliets I’ve known have gone by Jules (or any nickname)
Unless it’s something like Jillian Finnian/Jillian Christian/Jillian Brian (ie. super rhymey), I think it could work. Something like Jillian O’brian, Jillian Nolan, Jillian Thompson etc, I think it sounds okay
I don’t think so. Unless you had a son called Roman. Or she had a friend with that name (or Romeo). She might get comments if she ever studies Romeo and Juliet (but then even if your kid is studying Of Mice and Men and happened to be called the solid, versatile George, you probably would too), but I don’t think it would be constant.
Jillian is the one I associate with you more, but Juliet is so lovely! I think Juliet might fit slightly better with your other names though?
