I have heard almost every person I know say that they would consider this for an FN. Am I the only one who associates it with the ridiculous movie of the same name? I know, [name_f]Juno[/name_f] the goddess, and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] the place (whether or not you spell it [name_f]Juneaux[/name_f]) are accosiations many people have with the name also. But it seems like its popularity certainly increased in direct correlation to the popularity of the movie.
I’m with you 100%.
I love it. I think it’s a wonderful name with history regardless of the associating movie. I don’t mind [name_u]Juneau[/name_u] either for an outdoorsy twist.
The new polar bear cub at the Toronto Zoo was just named [name_f]Juno[/name_f].
I really do not like the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f] AT ALL.
I agree, all I can think of is the movie.
I think about [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]'s dog (in the cartoon). His name was [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], but every time I say [name_f]Juno[/name_f] I think of that dog. I kinda like it, although I prefer [name_u]June[/name_u]. It is a little to out there for my taste, but I do like it.
I don’t know of anyone in real life named [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. I never watched the movie, so I don’t have that association.
I love [name_f]Juno[/name_f], I just think it’s so cool. There is the movie association, but I’m not tired of hearing the name at all because I never hear it on babies in real life. It feels fresh.
I don’t know anything about the movie. I feel neutral about the name.
I’m more likely to get sick of names I hear all the time. If 20 people are considering [name_f]Juno[/name_f], but 16 of them pick the name [name_f]Anne[/name_f], I’m more likely to get tired of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] because that’s going to be heard more often. I’ve never met a [name_f]Juno[/name_f] in person, so to me it’s still a place and goddess name.
ETA: I also think it comes down to whether you like the name or not. If you liked the name you probably wouldn’t be sick of hearing it.
Never met anyone with the name and the movie’s old. I think of writer [name_u]Junot[/name_u] [name_u]Diaz[/name_u] and then the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess.
I ALWAYS have the Movie reference in my mind when I see/hear the name. Have never met anyone with the name and I don’t care for mythology, so [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is just the title of that movie to me (aside from the sudden baby name trendyness of it).
I don’t love or hate it. And in fact if I had to choose between this name and many others (like [name_f]Anne[/name_f], someone said above), I’d definitely favor [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. I think it is better than a lot of names that I also just don’t get. I think we all have some names that kind of don’t register, so we don’t feel any very strong emotions and are kind of unaware of what our feelings towards them are. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] to me is like that. One of those names I have Absolutely no opinion for and couldn’t care less about, (no offense to anyone who likes the name).
I know the movie and I don’t care about it. My strongest association is [name_f]Hera[/name_f]. I really like [name_f]Juno[/name_f], but no, I wouldn’t consider it as a first name, but that is only because I have tons of other names I like more.
I’m not sick of it or anything- in fact, other than on here, I’ve never met anyone by this name- but it is really tied to the movie, in my opinion. It’s not my favorite name, but the movie association puts a huge damper on the name for me. However, at least it isn’t another [name_f]Braelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Neveah[/name_f], or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (all extremely popular names where I live, and in the neighboring counties).
Obviously, I love the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f]!
It does seem to be popular on here, but I certainly don’t think it feels too popular or overdone in the “real world”. I’ve never met another one, and only one person has said she once knew a lady by the name. Most people have never heard of it.
I was surprised when I joined NB that people generally seem to like the name so much, because we’ve had quite a few negative reactions (and lots more bemused reactions) to my daughter’s name in real life. Younger people usually quite like it (maybe the influence of the film?), but older people tend not to be familiar with it, unless they remember the goddess from their Latin studies (which always excites me, haha!) Obviously, to us and everyone we know, both the pop culture and Classical connections have almost completely faded - [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is and will always be first and foremost the name of a certain cheeky little girl!
FWIW, we didn’t name our daughter after the film, but I don’t mind the association. I know it’s no longer cool to like “[name_f]Juno[/name_f]”, but I still do, and I really, really admire [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_u]Page[/name_u] for her work with the LGBT community. Actually, very few people have made the film connection in real life - I’ve been pleasantly surprised by that. It seems that not that many people have actually seen it.
We chose [name_f]Juno[/name_f] for its short, bold, unfrilly sound (we have a long, wordy surname) and for its personal significance to us. We were in our final year of university when we found out we were expecting; I had to study through morning sickness, sat Finals exams at 6 months pregnant with a hyperactive baby and an equally hyperactive bladder, but still managed to graduate (huge, at 8 months pregnant) with a 1st-class degree from [name_m]Oxford[/name_m]. It was a real ordeal - a wonderful, exciting, miraculous one of course, but an ordeal nevertheless! - and it seemed fitting to choose a name that reflected our studies, which had been such a huge part of the pregnancy. I studied Russian and Polish; my husband studied Latin and Ancient Greek, so we looked to those sources for a name and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] was the one that just “clicked”, instantly.
i know a baby named juno after the film, and i really like it! mind you, this is in italy were english names tend to be considered trashy, and the girl had a sister named febe (similar to phoebe), which i find quite terrible.
I am neutral to [name_f]Juno[/name_f] - while I don’t like it, I certainly don’t hate it. . With the exception of this site I’ve never met a [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and it’s not very common in here. One name that’s mentioned here over and over is [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]. Now, THAT is one name I’m sick of hearing!! Girls names I could live without hearing on here are [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]/[name_f]Emelie[/name_f]!! And of course all the [name_m]Williams[/name_m], Catherines, [name_f]Janes[/name_f], etc etc
I do like that [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is easy to spell, easy to pronounce, but otherwise not frequently heard. As others have said, I wouldnt hesitate to choose [name_f]Juno[/name_f] over [name_f]Anne[/name_f].
@katinka that’s such a lovely story. Well done on getting through everything despite being heavily pregnant!
I personally love it too, along with a few of the names mentioned here. I understand why somebody wouldn’t like it, I don’t like many names that are popular on here. For me it is more the sound of the name, the -o ending is really unusual for a girl and normally associated with males. For this reason I think it is quite androgynous while still being a classic female figure. As for the film, films come and go… it will be of significance to one generation but a little girl growing up would probably only stumble upon the film in her teens. Besides, I’m sure there’s a film for every name out there.
I like [name_f]Juno[/name_f]! I could list hundreds of names I’m sick of before [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. I don’t think the movie is a bad association. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is a likable character who did a courageous thing. It’s not like the name is Valdamort. Or even [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] which is the name from one of the most popular books and movie series of all time. Really, I think people will forget about The movie.
The movie is just barely before my time. I’ve never seen it and since I’m big into mythology, I associate [name_f]Juno[/name_f] first with the goddess. I think it’s really pretty! I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Juno[/name_f].
