[name_f]Juno[/name_f] meets my nsaming criteria in about a million ways but the name is very strongly associated with the movie for me and thus seems a little cheesy and try hard. I have never been a [name_f]Juno[/name_f] movie fan and I rarely heard that name before the movie. It’s not like I think it’s horrible of someone to pick that name, I just couldn’t use it because of the movie and how overused it is [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Everyone has diff taste. People say my fn is overused all the time but I still like it! If you love the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f] even if it’s because of the movie more power to you
I never saw that movie so I don’t have that association! I think of the goddess but it’s not exactly my naming style.
I fell in love with the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f] because of the movie, lol. I think [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_u]Page[/name_u] is awesome as a person and her acting skills in the film, and that [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is an awesome character. She was quirky, witty, eccentric, sarcastic and just made me fall in love with her. The film is one of my all time favourites. She was a pregnant teenager, but who cares? Not me, obviously.
I’ve never met a [name_f]Juno[/name_f] in real life or heard it at all, I just love how no nonsense it is and, obviously, its ties to the film. I might go and watch it now, actually.
I don’t really understand why everyone is so caught up with the movie association when it wasn’t even a bad movie. Sometimes I think people on this site say that they don’t like things just to seem above the people who do, but that’s none of my business.
The reason that I don’t like it wasn’t because she was a pregnant teenager? I just thought it was corny. So the acdossiation for me is not good. But of course everyone has different taste.
I love the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f], I always have. I strongly associate it with mythology and honestly don’t really ever think of the movie when I hear the name. I saw the movie, liked it well enough, but it never felt like a classic, and sure enough it’s been a pretty flash in the pan thing, and a pretty generationally isolated one too (at it’s own fault, it tried to be too hip and aged itself). Because if that, I think that other than this small generational group, most people don’t associate the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f] with the movie and instead associate it with one of its many other cultural touchstones. I think that pretty soon disliking the name [name_f]Juno[/name_f] because of its film reference will be a whole lot like disliking the name [name_f]Myra[/name_f] because of that movie from the 70s- pointless and out of touch.
I love Juno and I have for years, but not everyone would use it as a first name. I’ve never met a Juno and the only child I know of whose name is Juno is the daughter of a user on this website. You and about half of the people who have commented on this thread are examples of people who don’t like it or are indifferent to it so chill. You’re coming off as a bit of a special snowflake.
The “ridiculous movie” won critical and commercial acclaim despite being made as an indie film and won an oscar for the writing, which only adds to its appeal and serves to modernise it beside its mythological roots. It makes sense for it to be as popular as you say (though it isn’t).
I don’t think that I am special for having my own opinions…I also think its mega harsh to call someone out of touch for disliking a movie/name connection. But I think this has been covered enough. Cheers
