Juno

During my school’s swimming/water polo summer camp, I met an incoming freshman boy named [name]Juno[/name]. I found it quite interesting, and it strangely seemed to suit him, even though I prefer to see it on a girl.

What do you think of [name]Juno[/name] on a boy?

I’m not a huge fan of the name in general, but I actually prefer it on a boy. I think the reason I dislike the name so much is because I don’t generally like girl names that end in -o.

I know [name]Juno[/name] is the female goddess, but it’s pretty common to completely ignore the meaning of names. Like [name]Claudia[/name] (lame) and [name]Cecelia[/name] (blind).

Plus there’s a popular book series: [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl. That [name]Artemis[/name] is male, even though [name]Artemis[/name] is also the name of a Greek goddess.

Personally, I would think the parents rather ignorant for giving the name of a goddess to a boy. I don’t consider [name]Juno[/name] unisex at all.

Perhaps [name]Juneau[/name] for a boy.

It seems feminine to me because of the movie ‘[name]Juno[/name]’, and also the goddess, but I admit it has a unisex sound [name]IMO[/name]. I think spelled [name]Junot[/name] or [name]Juneau[/name] seems more masculine, but in either case, good for him for pulling it off!

To me, that name is hopelessly tied to the movie “[name]Juno[/name]” so I can’t bring myself to like it for either gender  But yes, it definitely sounds too feminine to me, cemented by the whole goddess thing. It’s not the worst name his parents could’ve chosen, and he may actually love his name…I do what reason the parents had for choosing it though…

Personally I’m not a fan of the name but I do prefer it on a girl.

I don’t like it on girls but it sounds great on a boy.

Thanks for the replies so far! The reactions so far are very interesting to read!

Are you sure it wasn’t [name]Junot[/name]? I immediately thought of [name]Junot[/name] [name]Diaz[/name].

He’s [name]Asian[/name], so I doubt his parents would have used the Spanish [name]Junot[/name] spelling. I’ve only heard his name aloud, so it could be a possibility. However, [name]Junot[/name], [name]Juno[/name], [name]Juneau[/name], it all sounds the same aloud, so in the pool, it wouldn’t really matter how he spells it anyway
