Can [name]Gus[/name] really stand alone or will I regret not choosing a longer, more formal, name for the future? I do love [name]Augustus[/name] but not sure dh will go for it. Our competing name is [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Lev[/name] nn. [name]Sam[/name] but I like that [name]Gus[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name] is less common. Unfortunately [name]Lev[/name] doesn’t work with [name]Gus[/name].
Which do you prefer?
[name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name]
[name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] nn. [name]Gus[/name]
[name]Augustus[/name] [name]Lev[/name] nn. [name]Gus[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Lev[/name] nn. [name]Sam[/name]
Also, which goes better with big sister [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]?
I love [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] in particular, plus you get [name]Augie[/name] when he’s little! Aww, just thinking about a little adorable [name]Gus[/name] makes me smile. I do like it by itself, but I think giving a child more options is never a bad thing. Good luck! [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Levi[/name] is also nice though.
I think [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Levi[/name] goes better with [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Naomi[/name].
But I like [name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] better I think it can work on it’s own.
You know something I just thought of, the reason [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Samuel[/name] sound like they go together is because they do! In the Bible [name]Hannah[/name] was [name]Samuel[/name]'s mother. Maybe a bit weird? Guess it depends on you guys if that bothers you at all.
Yikes! I think I do care that [name]Hannah[/name] is [name]Samuel[/name]'s mother. Especially because my [name]Hannah[/name] will be ten years older than her new sibling. And also because we like biblical names so it would seem a little ignorant to use them without considering that.
Thanks everyone for the input. Dh came home from work to declare that [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] sounds like a pilgrim, not surprising. So I think we’re going to go with [name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name]… if it’s a boy. Now on the the girl forum to finalize that one!
I prefer [name]Gus[/name] as a nickname and my favourite from your choices is [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name]. I think [name]Hannah[/name] & [name]Augustus[/name] is perfect!
Of your options I like [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] the best, but I agree with tfzolghadr that [name]August[/name] [name]Lev[/name] is much nicer.
I like [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Lev[/name] quite a lot. I’m not such a fan of [name]Gus[/name] on it’s own myself. Though I did have one friend growing up who had this name, and he likes it just fine. If your husband doesn’t go along with [name]Augustus[/name], maybe he’d more likely appreciate [name]August[/name] or [name]Augustine[/name] or [name]Augusten[/name]?
I think [name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] is very handsome, and I don’t have a problem with [name]Gus[/name] on it’s own. It works on a boy or a man and it’s clean and simple.
I don’t like [name]Augustus[/name] one bit. I honestly think [name]August[/name] [name]Lev[/name] would be a lot better with [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Naomi[/name].
I adore [name]Gus[/name] on its own and am really not keen on any of the long forms. [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Gus[/name] pair beautifully together, and I think [name]Gus[/name] can stand perfectly without a full name. [name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name] gets my vote.
Thanks all. My husband just won’t go for [name]August[/name], although I like it. I think we’re choosing [name]Gus[/name] [name]Levi[/name], with 4-5 weeks to change our minds!
