It could work. Why not? Personally I’d rather give the child more options, but there are plenty of kids formally named [name]Jack[/name], [name]Theo[/name], and [name]Sam[/name]. As for the syllable full name, it didn’t hurt [name]Brad[/name] [name]Pitt[/name], [name]Sean[/name] [name]Penn[/name], or [name]Jude[/name] [name]Law[/name].
Other full name options:
[name]Gaius[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Argus[/name]
[name]Ignatius[/name]
Gratianus
Gregorius
[name]Octavius[/name]
[name]Pelagius[/name]
or a “G— ---us” first/middle combination; something like “[name]George[/name] [name]Atticus[/name]”?
Sorry, I just don’t think it works with that surname, but it would’ve been fine otherwise.
[name]Angus[/name] [name]Fox[/name] would be amazing though! I don’t think it’s too ‘ethnic’ at all. I know an [name]Angus[/name] whose parents aren’t even Caucasian, let alone Scottish! And it’s the English spelling of a Scottish name so I think it’s fine
I don’t think my OH would go for [name]Angus[/name] anyway because of the [name]Angus[/name] burgers. I do like the G-- —us idea though, I have [name]George[/name] on my list anyway and if I can find a suitable middle (I don’t like [name]Atticus[/name] much) it’s a possibility. [name]George[/name] “[name]Fox[/name]” would probably work better than [name]Gus[/name] “[name]Fox[/name]” because although it’s still one syllable it doesn’t seem as short because of the spelling.
[name]Ah[/name] well! [name]George[/name] [name]Fox[/name] works much better though, I like that idea. [name]Gus[/name] [name]Fox[/name] was a bit too short and chop & change but [name]George[/name] is audibly longer and smoother. So, for names enfing in ‘us’, there is:
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Ludovicus[/name]
[name]Octavius[/name]
[name]Aurelius[/name]
[name]Tiberius[/name]
[name]Maximus[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Caius[/name]
[name]Lucius[/name]
[name]Cornelius[/name]
Like any of them?
Ooh, [name]George[/name] [name]Marcus[/name] sounds very handsome. I’m not usually a fan of [name]Roman[/name] sounding names, they sound a bit too formal and fancy for me, but I’ve always liked [name]Mark[/name] and I think [name]Marcus[/name] is nice as well.
I voted no, but I think it depends on the surname. If it’s really [name]Fox[/name] or something with a similar sound, then paired with [name]Gus[/name], it’s hissy. [name]Gus[/name] [name]Blake[/name] or something like that would be a different story, because you don’t have the “s” and “x” sounds conflicting.
I like [name]Gus[/name] by itself, but I don’t think it works well with a last name that sounds like “[name]Fox[/name],” only because they both end in that soft S sound ( [name]Brad[/name] [name]Pitt[/name], [name]Jude[/name] [name]Law[/name], etc, all end differently and so sound more structured). However, I think [name]Gus[/name] would be a cute nickname for any name beginning with or containing a G. Who says it has to have the -gus syllable? [name]Plenty[/name] of nicknames are pulled from one letter of a name.
[name]George[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Garner[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Germaine[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Guthrie[/name]
[name]Douglas[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Eagan[/name]
I like [name]Gus[/name] too, but not [name]August[/name] or any other long forms. So I’m with you!
I don’t see why it’s a problem, as long as it’s not a weird combination or the letters run into each other, or it creates an unfortunate rhyme or something. I’m partial to longer names, myself, but I don’t think it’s mandatory.
[name]George[/name] [name]Fox[/name] is a university, just in case that could end up being his real name.
I could see [name]Gus[/name] as a nn for [name]Ulysses[/name]!
He wouldn’t actually be [name]George[/name] [name]Fox[/name], [name]Fox[/name] is just a name that sounds close to the surname. That’s why I had it in my initial post as “fox” to try and indicate it was a placeholder.
Guess I’ll have to keep [name]Gus[/name] for a character or a pet.
I love just [name]Gus[/name]! I think it works great.
