Kai - your thoughts?

So we discovered that my little one due this [name_u]November[/name_u] is a boy and so we are trying to add names to our boys’ list. We tend to like names that are uncommon or underused, but not unheard of. My first son’s name is [name_m]Luther[/name_m]. I was contemplating adding [name_u]Kai[/name_u] to the list, but I am curious as to what people’s thoughts are on the name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? Should we use it as a nick name for something longer, [name_m]Caius[/name_m] perhaps? What impression does the name give you? If you were an employer how would you feel if you came across the name on a resume or job application? Thanks for your opinions.

I like it and think it stands alone quite well without needing a longer name. I have only heard this name twice - once on a man in his 40s and the other time on a little boy who is 4. I do think this name is becoming more popular though - nice choice!

I like it, but I do prefer [name_m]Caius[/name_m]. Kai makes me think of a laid back person who maybe surfs. I wouldn’t hesitate to interview someone named Kai, but I don’t really consider names when looking at applications. I love [name_m]Luther[/name_m], btw!

I like the name but it’s gaining popularity in my area. I’ve met a lot of baby Kais recently so I’d personally avoid it.

I really like the name [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. Where I am from it isn’t as popular. I think I have only met one kid with the name.
I wouldn’t judge a resume because the name, plus a like [name_u]Kai[/name_u] so it definitely wouldn’t be a thought!
I think this is a good choice ”
Congrats!

I love [name_u]Kai[/name_u].
[name_m]Luther[/name_m] is awesome, but not sure it goes as well with [name_u]Kai[/name_u] as [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] would, which could go by [name_u]Kai[/name_u].

I’m personally not a fan of [name_u]Kai[/name_u] given it’s meaning in Maori in my country, but since your not from [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand I think that [name_u]Kai[/name_u] would be a great name for you and [name_u]Kai[/name_u] and [name_m]Luther[/name_m] go nice together as do [name_m]Caius[/name_m] and [name_m]Luther[/name_m]. Either way you can’ go wrong.

[name_m]Caius[/name_m] is a lovely name, but where I am from kai is the maori word for food. ie people say…lets go get some kai (food). This makes it a deal breaker for me sorry. I know you are not from new zealand, but personally I would not like my name to mean food in any language.

I love [name_m]Caius[/name_m] with the nickname [name_u]Kai[/name_u]! Gorgeous name! I also like it spelled [name_m]Kaius[/name_m] like [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] did.

Thanks everyone. I love that the name [name_u]Kai[/name_u] has so many meanings in so many different languages. It adds character to the name and makes it interesting. I have mixed feelings about [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Caius[/name_m]. I like both, but I am not sure if it would be enough to use them. I probably would prefer [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] over [name_m]Caius[/name_m]. I don’t mind that it’s trending upward in popularity, as long as it doesn’t become super popular. It’s definitely going on the list though for future consideration!
