I don’t think [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] is more familiar in the United States at all. Most of the Caitlins I know spell it with a C, rarely with a K, and I don’t know anyone with a K and a Y. To me, [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] looks more classic and cleaner.
Interesting! Growing up I went to school with about 6 different ones, all were [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]. I think I went to college with a [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f], but I’ve never known any Caitlins.
Wow, that’s interesting! [name_m]Just[/name_m] looking through the people I know there are thre Caitlins and one [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f]. Maybe its generational or by region!
I definitely prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. If just [name_f]Kate[/name_f], I prefer that K to the C, but I don’t like the trendiness of the variant spellings of [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. Also, due to the amount of variations of the name, the [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] spelling actually looks very fresh, which I like.
I voted for [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], but I have to say that I don’t think there’s really a “conventional” way to spell this name in the US right now. I’ve gone to school with Caitlins, Katelyns, Kaitlins, Kaitlyns, Catelyns, etc. I even knew a Kaytlynn. The name has lost all appeal to me, in part because there’s so many versions.
As a [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] (who goes almost exclusively by [name_f]Kate[/name_f]), I personally only know one or two others with my spelling. Weirdly enough, other spellings just don’t feel like the same name to me. Not that I dislike them, it’s just that when I see [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Katlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Katlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f] etc, I don’t even think of my own name! There are so many spellings of this name.
That said, out of the other spellings I think [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is my favorite - which is funny, because I feel like it’s the farthest from my own spelling that you could get!
Tbh I think this is one of those names that has spiraled to the point where there isn’t a “standard” spelling anymore. Obviously [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is the original, but so many other spellings are used that people aren’t likely to automatically guess the [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] spelling every time. I’ve known girls named [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Katlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f], and [name_f]Katelynn[/name_f].
Basically, I think any way you spell it will have to be corrected so just go with whatever you like more. I personally prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], although not by much.
I prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. Like @sparkleninja18 said either way she’ll have to spell her name.
