What do you think?
Is sounds nice. However I don’t like the two short names together. What about Kaliya [name]Amy[/name], Kaleah,
Are you pronouncing [name]Kali[/name] as KAH-lee or KA-lee (ka like in cat)? I know a [name]Kali[/name] and she pronounces it Kah-lee and also [name]Kali[/name] is the Hindu [name]Goddess[/name] of destruction, in case you didn’t know.
Besides that, I think the ee sound at the end of both are super close together and that makes them pretty rhymey and unappealing to me, sorry. I love both names individually though.
I prefer [name]Callie[/name] spelling, looks less trendy. [name]Kali[/name] just looks too trendy.
I also don’t like the way both names end in the -ee or -ey sound. It just doesn’t flow right.
If you are set on [name]Kali[/name]:
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Amber[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Aliyah[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Abelle[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Abilene[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Abrielle[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Kali[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
- [name]Just[/name] some ideas.
Pronounced like [name]Cali[/name], as in the abbreviation for [name]California[/name]…
Not my style sorry. I don’t like either name and I especially don’t like them together BUT that’s just my opinion and if you love them together that’s the most important thing. I do prefer [name]Callie[/name], or [name]Carrie[/name] and I would go for [name]Ami[/name], said the french way, over [name]Amy[/name]. [name]Callie[/name] [name]Ami[/name] is actually pretty cute!
[name]Ah[/name] well if you want [name]Cali[/name] you should maybe spell it [name]Cali[/name] or [name]Callie[/name] because [name]Kali[/name] is the Hindu [name]Goddess[/name] of Destruction. [name]Don[/name]'t mean to be offensive, jut saying.
I know a girl named [name]Kali[/name] who pronounces it [name]KAY[/name]-lee. So now you have three different possible pronunciations, which could get pretty confusing. I love [name]Callie[/name]. I think the two-syllable middle name sounds clunky with it. I would suggest a one-syllable or three-syllable middle name. [name]Callie[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Callie[/name] [name]Amara[/name] are pretty.
I don’t like either name and especially not together. It’s trendy to change the spelling of names. I believe the correct spelling is [name]Callie[/name]. I don’t like how both names end the same way either.
[name]Kali[/name] is a legitimate spelling and also the name of the [name]Indian[/name] goddess of destruction. But both are legit spellings. [name]Kali[/name] also means “dark one” in Sanskrit, so although not the best of meanings I think you should note that.
Other than that I don’t think [name]Kali[/name] [name]Amy[/name] go well together, and I agree with others that a similar 3 -syllable name to [name]Amy[/name] would work.
[name]Callie[/name] [name]Amy[/name] is prettiest…
No.
“[name]Kali[/name] in Hinduism, is a manifestation of the [name]Divine[/name] Mother, which represents the female principle. Frequently, those not comprehending her many roles in life call [name]Kali[/name] the goddess of destruction. She destroys only to recreate, and what she destroys is sin, ignorance and decay. She is equated with the eternal night, is the transcendent power of time”
[name]Kali[/name] gets a very bad rap, often compared to demon-like figures, by those who are ill-informed.
As someone who has experience with this name, I can tell you that it will be mispronounced frequently… mostly as [name]Kaylee[/name]. I’ve never heard it pronounced kah-lee, which is indeed the “correct” pronunciation for this spelling.
I also prefer [name]Callie[/name] for your desired pronunciation, and in general.
Thanks for setting me straight yellow I appreciate it ^^ Nameberry has [name]Kali[/name] listed as the goddess of destruction and I couldn’t find much else in my little search. The girl I know is kah-lee and I believe there’s a good chance she’s named after this goddess (she’s [name]Indian[/name]) I’ll ask. I was just meaning that [name]Callie[/name] would be better and I’m sorry for demonstrating my ignorance on the subject. Forgive me? ^^
Nothing to forgive! I’m certainly ignorant on MANY a naming subject (hence Ianthe from the other thread). I just happen to know about this one.
Kah-lee should be the first 'mis’pronunciation out of anyone’s mouth, but I asked and it’s apparently never happened! [name]Kay[/name]-lee shocks me for this spelling, but it’s the most frequent. [name]Karly[/name] happens as well.
I do agree that [name]Callie[/name] is ‘better,’ if only because it’s more easily pronounced (though I also tend to think it’s prettier).
I just realized that I didn’t really address the OP’s question. Kali Amy sounds sing-songy, and for my own taste, looks and sounds choppy and short. The ee at the end of Kali also blends into the ay at the beginning of Amy… so that it sounds a bit like one name, Kaliamy. Some vowels can be sandwiched, but a lot of the time it presents issues like this.
That’s fully a matter of personal taste, though… one person’s “choppy and abbreviated” is another’s “percussive and to the point.”
