I love [name]Kate[/name], but find [name]Katherine[/name] so-so. I think its strong, classy and elegant and has a strong enough history as a given name to be used as a given name rather than a nn for [name]Katherine[/name]

I love [name]Katherine[/name]. There are many, many nicknames to [name]Katherine[/name] so it would give your daughter some flexibility to make the name her own in the future…[name]Katherine[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Katie[/name], [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kit[/name], [name]Kat[/name], [name]Kathy[/name]. [name]Katherine[/name] is timeless and elegant.

I don’t like the name [name]Kate[/name], and I find [name]Katherine[/name] much more elegant, with a variety of nicknames.

I if she didn’t like [name]Kate[/name] as a nickname, she could change it to something she wanted.

For [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name], they are always in and timeless, but which of each’s nicknames are fashionable vary.

[name]Plenty[/name] of Kates and Katies right now, its very current, but I would go [name]Katherine[/name] for flexibility. Wouldn’t want to be locked into a name that ends up feeling like a specific time period.

I agree! Name her katherine and call her [name]Kate[/name]

You may prefer [name]Kate[/name] to [name]Katherine[/name], but your daughter might prefer [name]Katherine[/name]. Using the full name [name]Katherine[/name] allows her not only that option, but also the choice to switch nicknames if she wants- she could also decide to become [name]Kat[/name], [name]Kit[/name], [name]Katya[/name], or Kath if she chooses.

Agree with this 100%.

Thanks for all the reply. Looks like most people prefer [name]Katherine[/name] over [name]Kate[/name] as a given name due to it’s timeless and flexibility. I’m thinking this way too. Obviously it’s not a fresh name, but hopefully this name can last without feeling bored
