We have a three syllable last name. We do not want her to be a [name]Katie[/name], because our last name ends in i. Which one - [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (3 syl last name) or [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] (3 syl last name.) We are split. Does [name]Kate[/name] feel incomplete and short? Is [name]Katelyn[/name] dated? Either way, we will call her [name]Kate[/name]. Also, [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] has some family history and [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] does not. Votes please. Thanks!
[name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] sounds better overall, but I prefer [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name].
It’s a tough call for me, but [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] has a glamour feel to me so I’m going with that one.
[name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] sounds more lively and pretty. [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is classic, but i prefer [name]Catherine[/name] than [name]Katelyn[/name].
how about [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Margot[/name]?
[name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is, [name]IMO[/name], slightly boring. [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] creates a vivid picture full of energy. Plus, if [name]Katelyn[/name] has family ties then [name]Kate[/name] will too - but if [name]Elizabeth[/name] has the family ties, you could consider using [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] or an energetic variant. Some possibilities:
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name] [name]Viva[/name]
[name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Kate[/name] [name]Liza[/name]
[name]Kate[/name] [name]Lisabeth[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
Either way, both of them - [name]Katelyn[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] - are pretty. I just prefer [name]Kate[/name].
I prefer [name]Katelyn[/name], but not [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I really can’t stand [name]Katelyn[/name], but all the other names work for me in whatever combo.
Unfortunaltey I really dislike the name [name]Katelyn[/name] but the combo flows best. If it was [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] this would be my favourite but I love [name]Kate[/name] & [name]Vivienne[/name]. I would sway some around but either way every combonation works fine.
[name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] gets my vote. [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] just sounds dated to me.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Kate[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]? I think this flows better than [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name].
I vote for [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I love [name]Kate[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] as another poster mentioned. I think that gives it a more modern feel.
Another name that you might consider is Katerina Elizabeth. You can still call her Kate, but I think Katerina is more beautiful than either Katelyn or Katherine.
I really dislike [name]Katelyn[/name]. [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] are both very nice.
I know SOOOO many Katelyns/Kaitlyns/Caitlyns/Caitlyns!!! It is getting a little tiring. Also, I think more people that would call her [name]Katie[/name]. [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] doesn’t flow the best, but I think it is alot more classic and elegant than [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Good [name]Luck[/name]!
I really despise the name [name]Katelyn[/name], but it does have the best flow. I think [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Kate[/name] sounds nicer in terms of flow.
My name is [name]Katelyn[/name] (sad to hear everyone hates it!) I can appreciate what attracted my parents to the name (born in mid 80s). I also understand why they chose to spell it this way - it’s visually appealing and lends itself to nicknames like [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Katie[/name] (they planned on calling me [name]Katie[/name] from the start).
That said, I have to say it is rough having it as a first name. I am constantly asked how I spell it, at Starbucks, etc. I wish they would just spell it however they want and not ask! You would be amazed at how many people mispronounce it too! ([name]CAT[/name]-lyn?!)
[name]Kate[/name] has so much more charm, especially if that is what you plan to call her. As a kid I was always [name]Katie[/name] but there were SOO many Katies in all my classes that by junior high I started going by [name]Katelyn[/name]. Now, as an adult, more and more people call me [name]Kate[/name] and I greatly prefer it! I would love it if my name were simply [name]Kate[/name].
[name]Just[/name] wanted to add - it’s not my style either! I do think the name is dated (80s/90s).
I agree with most everyone. [name]Katelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] has the best flow, but I’m just not a fan of [name]Katelyn[/name] (the spelling, in particular). I know an adult [name]Katie[/name] (that’s her name on her birth certificate), though she has gone by [name]Kate[/name] for years. I never thought it sounded incomplete. I do prefer [name]Katherine[/name] if you’re going to use [name]Kate[/name] anyway, and [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is lovely, though [name]Katherine[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] would definitely sound odd.
Thanks for all of the feedback! I just realized that [name]Kate[/name] Middleton’s middle name is [name]Elizabeth[/name], so I don’t know that I want my daughter to have the same name as half of the [name]Kate[/name] Middleton fans around the world. I can see how many people have strong aversions to [name]Katelyn[/name]… What about [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] or [name]Kate[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]? The rhythm of [name]Victoria[/name] is a little stronger, but I still love [name]Vivienne[/name]! Why is this so darn hard?!!
I love [name]Kate[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]. I think it flows perfectly, and sounds very elegant and classy!
I don’t like [name]Katelyn[/name]. It feels dated and too frou frou. I love [name]Kate[/name]! I also love suggestion of [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name].
I prefer just Kate, and I like both Kate Vivienne and Kate Elizabeth! Just read thru the strong feelings on the name Katelyn. I actually think its a sweet name (have had a few sweet little girls in my teaching career with this name, spelled various ways…this is my fav), but I agree it’s maybe overused, maybe a little dated. But if you love it, use it. It’s a pretty name, and to me has a classic feel about it, tho I know many would disagree. I also lov Katherine/Catherine.
