If you were combining “Kathie” and “Lynn” for a middle name in honor of someone, which spelling would you prefer for Katelynn? Thanks!
- Katelynn
- Kaitlynn
- Something else (add below!)
If you were combining “Kathie” and “Lynn” for a middle name in honor of someone, which spelling would you prefer for Katelynn? Thanks!
I’d personally use [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f] or Kathylinn
The name is Gaelic, and it is spelled [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. It is pronounced [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f] in Irish and [name_f]Catlin[/name_f] in Welsh.
I prefer [name_f]Katelynn[/name_f]! But I think [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] would also be a great way to combine them if you’re looking for suggestions.
I second [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Katelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Katlynn[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] would be my choices
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] but I think for a clear honour I would choose [name_f]Katelynn[/name_f].
I would also look at [name_f]Kailyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Kailynn[/name_f].
Of your two options, [name_f]Katelynn[/name_f] looks more balanced to me. But [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is my favorite spelling of the name
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], please. [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] for an honorary name that won’t be constantly misspelled.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. The others don’t look nearly as pretty to me.
[name_f]Katelynn[/name_f] can also simply be a combination of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] or Maryrose or [name_f]Emmalynn[/name_f].
[name_f]Caitlín[/name_f] is KAHT-leen in Irish (not Kathleen), it is not a Welsh name.
But in the US you won’t get anyone to say it the Irish way as kate-lynn is so established so it is fine to use the kate-lynn pronunciation, in my opinion.
I vote [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Colleen[/name_f].
I would never use any form of [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], because I have taught dozens and dozens of them.
I would use [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] or [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] or something like that.
I’ve known two Welsh girls named Caitlin; my daughter is named after one of them. [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_u]Cooper[/name_u] pronounced it [name_f]Catlin[/name_f] in Welsh when we met her.
I would go with [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f].
I also like [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]! I don’t think the name necessarily has to be spelt a certain way to honor somebody.
