[name]Hi[/name] Berries!
I wanted opinions on the name [name]Kitty[/name] as a nickname for [name]Katherine[/name]. My sister’s name is [name]Katherine[/name], and I have always loved it. My husband and I have agreed to use it in some way if we have a daughter of our own. Since my sister goes by [name]Katherine[/name], I think we would either use a variation of the name or use [name]Katherine[/name] (or some variation) as a middle name.
I love the nickname [name]Kitty[/name] … but I don’t know how others would feel. I haven’t run this one by the hubby yet …
Also, what middle names would you use? I love vintage names as well as French names ([name]Maelle[/name], [name]Juliette[/name], [name]Colette[/name] etc.).
[name]Do[/name] you think it would be weird to name her just “[name]Kitty[/name]”? Also, last name rhymes with “[name]Power[/name].”. We won’t be TTC for a few more months at the very least … but I love names!
Yes, I think it would be weird to name her [name]Kitty[/name], but I love it as a nickname for [name]Katherine[/name]! I also love just plain [name]Kit[/name] - in fact, I think I like it even more…
[name]Don[/name]'t just name her [name]Kitty[/name] as it really limits her options. I have a daughter [name]Katharine[/name] who I was tempted to name [name]Kate[/name] but went ahead with the full name to give her more options (and more namesakes). Now not only do I call her [name]Katharine[/name] occasionally. I also find myself calling her [name]Kat[/name] and [name]Kitty[/name]. I love the idea of [name]Kitty[/name] for a little girl and [name]Kit[/name] for a teenager.
I know Katherines who go by [name]Kitty[/name] and [name]Kit[/name] [name]Kat[/name]. It’s a good nickname, you should go for it–but I wouldn’t name her simply [name]Kitty[/name], I agree that limits her options. There are so many other possible nicknames for [name]Katherine[/name] that you could use in the future–[name]Kate[/name], [name]Katie[/name], Rini.
I think the nn [name]Kitty[/name]/[name]Kit[/name] for [name]Katherine[/name] is really great and you should for sure use it! I also know someone named [name]Catherine[/name] who goes by [name]Cricket[/name], which i also love! Im sure you could still get away with [name]Katherine[/name] with a “K” calling her [name]Cricket[/name] too.
The nn possibilities for [name]Katherine[/name] are endless!
My mom is a [name]Katherine[/name] nn [name]Kitty[/name]. She has only ever been called [name]Kitty[/name] her whole life. [name]Kitty[/name] doesn’t sound like it would age well, but it really does! Maybe I just say that because I only can think of my mom… but I also think of the mom on That 70s Show, it worked for her! I think it’s a great nickname, very distinctive. My mom loves it so much more than [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Katie[/name], she says it’s more interesting, she’s right! She’s glad to have [name]Katherine[/name] as her full name though because it sounds professional for business and such (though she does go by [name]Kitty[/name] at work, too). I don’t know, I think it’s great! But definitely put [name]Katherine[/name] on the birth certificate! She’ll thank you later!
p.s. I think you short change your daughter by just going with [name]Kitty[/name]. [name]Katherine[/name] is beautiful and allows for a multitude of options in the future should she not always want to be a [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kit[/name], etc.
While I don’t have a problem with the name [name]Katherine[/name], I have never understood nicknames like “[name]Kitty[/name]” and “[name]Kat[/name]” or “[name]Cat[/name].” It has always sounded a bit sexual/sleazy to me. It has a bit of a “stripperish” vibe in my opinion. What about [name]Kit[/name] or [name]Kate[/name] instead? Maybe you could even use [name]Ren[/name]/[name]Wren[/name], maybe even Therin. They sound classier than [name]Kitty[/name].
