Katherine - spelling question

I am curious as to what everyone’s favourite spelling of [name]Katherine[/name] is? It has been one of my favourite names for a long time, and although I’d shy away from using as it an fn (due to popularity) I would definitely use it as a mn.

Which do you prefer?

  • [name]Catherine[/name]
  • [name]Catharine[/name]
  • [name]Katherine[/name]
  • [name]Katharine[/name]

I, for some reason, prefer the double-a spelling (both C and K) but can’t figure out why. I worry that if it was in the fn spot, she’d be constantly spelling it out to people to avoid them spelling it with an ‘e’, or worse, spelling it [name]Kathryn[/name]. I really, really dislike the ‘ryn’ ending. I always pronounce [name]Katharine[/name]/[name]Catharine[/name] as ‘Kath-a-rine’ rather than ‘Kath-rin’ which is possibly why I find it more appealing.

So, ladies, what do you think?

I prefer the traditional [name]Katherine[/name] for some reason… I have no idea why ^^ I’m a bit old school in some ways I guess…

I always prefer it with a K rather than a C, and I like the [name]Katharine[/name] spelling more because of [name]Katharine[/name] Hepburn.

I have a friend who is [name]Kathryn[/name] and normally I would find it a bit yooneek, but on her it’s very spunky. She goes by Kath rather than any of the other nicknames.

I’m not a lady (if you didn’t know I’m one of the few long-term male members here), but of all the spellings I like [name]Catherine[/name] best; in fact that name is one of my favorites! (For some reason I don’t like the “K” versions or any of the more “creatively spelled” forms as much.)

[name]Katherine[/name] is my favorite. I think that its the most likely to be spelt correctly. Plus, I like the nn versions of [name]Kate[/name], [name]Katie[/name], spelling rather than [name]Cate[/name] or [name]Catie[/name]

Another vote for [name]Katherine[/name]; I just like a “traditional spelling”; it’s the most user-friendly and will be most people’s first guess (it’s even the spelling you used in the title to the post  )

I just read your pronounciation of [name]Katherine[/name]. I have always pronounced it Kath-er-in.

I’ve always liked the [name]Katharine[/name] spelling. My mother actually changed her name from [name]Katherine[/name] to [name]Katharine[/name] when she was a teenager. She said she identified more with that spelling for some reason.

I like [name]Catherine[/name] or [name]Katherine[/name]. [name]Catherine[/name] being my favorite.

I love [name]Katherine[/name]. I think that [name]Catherine[/name] is pretty, too, but when I see it, I unfortunatly think of the word “catheter.”

Good luck!
