I love [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a name, I know its past its prime of the mid-nineties when it was mega mega popular (especially in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]) but I just think its soft, girly, sophisticated, calm and perky and easy to pull off without being flat or soulless. Perhaps its because there’s [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s in my family but just want to know what others think?
Cute & sweet…like my niece [name_f]Katie[/name_f].
I’m English and I know so many [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s but they’re all at least 12 years old. I don’t have anything bad to say about it but it’s been used so much, especially in [name_m]Britain[/name_m], that I’ve gotten tired of it.
I quite like [name_f]Kate[/name_f] but I can’t seem to warm to [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. I think it may be the sound of the name. The double whammy of “ay” and “ee” make it sound like this child will be in nappies for a lifetime and will never grow up. Its overt perkiness just rubs me the wrong way. I put [name_f]Katie[/name_f] in my own special category: “Names That Sound Like Nails on a Chalkboard”. [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] and [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] are there too to keep her company. Sorry if I seem harsh but I really don’t see the appeal.
I love it!!! I love more as a nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] though.
I think [name_f]Katie[/name_f] is the epitome of sweetness! I love it!
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] is a great name. Lately I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Katya[/name_f]. For a real girl I’d still use [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or [name_f]Katya[/name_f] as a standalone name.
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] will never go out of style and since it’s less popular now than it once was, a baby named [name_f]Katie[/name_f] would stand out a bit more. I’d still make it a nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] though. While great for a child, an adult might not like [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as her full name.
Meh, not my thing - it’s so very overdone and it sounds very dated to my ears. But nothing against it if you really love it. I do agree that it should be a nickname for something more substantial, though.
My mothers name is [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], but she only ever goes by [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I absolutely adore it. Not to fond of [name_f]Katie[/name_f] - as in my accent it sounds like [name_f]Kaydee[/name_f], but it’s still an alright name.
Best of luck
I love [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f], though much prefer them as a nickname. I wouldn’t use either myself because they are variants of my own name, but I think they’re all lovely.
It sounds very little girl to me and not really like a full name at all. I agree with [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] about it never growing up.
I like it as a NN for [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_f]Katia[/name_f], [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], even [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] possibly. I wouldn’t use it alone though.
I do really like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] as well, and find [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] less overused than [name_f]Katie[/name_f], but [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] is another I’d only use as a NN.
I see it as a nickname for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]/etc.
It’s okay. I’ve never loved it.
I’m commenting on this one because I’m a [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and thought maybe some feedback from an adult named [name_f]Katie[/name_f] (I’m 23) may be useful. To begin, I’ve always liked my name. I’ve known many other Katies, but only as nicknames. It’s always been pretty neat being the only girl with [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a full name.
I have always kind of felt like my name brings the image of a four year old with pigtails on a swingset, but I like that cute, bubbly image. Besides, if I ever grow out of [name_f]Katie[/name_f] I can ask to be called [name_f]Kate[/name_f], which is also a nice name. It doesn’t help that my full name is [name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] haha. [name_m]How[/name_m] cutesy can you get? But a suggestion is to maybe give her a more classy middle name to even that out.
My only warning to give is that I have some jokester friends that like to call me [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as like a reverse nickname, but other than that I have never had a problem with my name. I feel like a [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or a [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and think my mom made a great choice. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!
I’m a major advocate of not giving a nickname name as a given name. I say give her a fuller version of [name_f]Katie[/name_f] because - why not? Why not give her more versatility?
That said, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. At this point, I’m all Kated out and would love to see more Katies.
