Would [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] end up getting called just [name]Katy[/name]/[name]Kate[/name] all the time? Or do you think people would naturally call her the whole name, [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]? You never hear people refer to [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Kate[/name] [name]Olsen[/name] as just [name]Mary[/name], but then, things are different for celebrities, and of course we don’t know what [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Kate[/name]'s friends and family call her. I love [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name], but would be sad to see the name cut in half all the time, and “[name]Kate[/name]” to me is plain.
I wouldn’t know if it was pronounced “catty” or “katie”
The hyphen is important. If I don’t see a hyphen then I assume the names are separate, and both don’t have to be said.I knew a little [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Camille[/name]. Before I saw her name written I called her [name]Sarah[/name], assuming [name]Camille[/name] was her middle name. When I learned that there was a hyphen I started calling her [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Camille[/name]
I think it’s all in the cues, if you only call her [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name], that coupled with the hyphen would make things pretty clear. I’d call her [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] unless I heard mom or dad saying [name]Katy[/name].
I think [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] would always be known as [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name], or maybe as a fresh take on [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]'s MJ: KJ? [name]Don[/name]'t hear that often. I like [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] a lot.
Based on my experiences teaching, it seems given the popularity of [name]Katy[/name] [name]Perry[/name], this spelling has risen for young Katherines, [name]Katrina[/name], etc to use as their nickname as opposed to “[name]Katie[/name]”. I think most of a future daughter’s peers would be familiar with [name]Katy[/name] = [name]Katie[/name].
Also, I’ve taught several double barrel named children that haven’t had trouble using both names, but I’m someone who calls the person what they tell me that they prefer to be called.
I like it. If people try to shorten it, just politely correct them. Someone I know says, “We think her full name is so pretty, we don’t shorten it.”
I think if you introduce her at [name]Katy[/name]-[name]Jane[/name], then that’s what she’ll be called. I like double-barreled first names, and this one is very sweet!
