Please help! [name_m]Just[/name_m] not getting that “this is it” feeling with any name and we’re due in 4 weeks! Here are some of the combos we are liking…
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] (nn [name_u]June[/name_u] or junie)
Some reasons for hesitation on these names…
[name_m]Will[/name_m] people automatically think we named our child after [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] paltrow if we choose [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]?
[name_m]Will[/name_m] pronunciation be a concern with [name_f]Thea[/name_f]?
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Thea[/name_f]? We go back and forth between “they-a” and “thee-a”
Please share your thoughts/input on our choices! Other suggestions welcome too that you think fit with the same style as our combos. Thanks in advance
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is a classic and well-established name that’s been around long before Paltrow, so I don’t think anyone would automatically assume that.
For [name_f]Thea[/name_f], I would think “thee-a” is more intuitive, and it’s in my opinion a more elegant sound than “they-a”.
I like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]! [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] seems a little mismatched, although it may just be me associating [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] with a sweet British book-reading girl and [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] with, well, [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] Vergara.
I really love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! It’s to the point, not very common, and completely feminine- but not frilly. I don’t think there will be mispronunciation issues because it’s said Phonetically. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] isn’t working for me because the first sound of each name kind of conflict in a way because they’re similar but not close enough, or distinct enough. For some reason with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] I prefer seeing the [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is gorgeous ! I pronounce it Thee-ah as well !
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], so I can’t help you there, however I quite like [name_f]Junia[/name_f] ! [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] makes me smile actually …
Good luck and don’t worry, once she’s here, you’ll know and it may not matter so much !
I wouldn’t assume that a little [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] was named after Paltrow…I’d be more likely to think that there was Welsh ancestry in your family.
I automatically pronounce [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as THEE-ah.
Of your options, I like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] the best, although [name_f]Junia[/name_f] is a cool name. I might combine it w/[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], though…[name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a gorgeous choice. I would probably pronounce it Thee-ah unless otherwise corrected. [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is a pretty name and I would never assume you named her after [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow, but I don’t like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] together…they’re not evenly matched. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is gorgeous, too.
My vote still stands for [name_f]Thea[/name_f], though.
I seem to be in the minority but when I see [name_f]Thea[/name_f] written, I never know if it’s pronounced thee-ah or tay-ah.
I love [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] in general but I really like the combination of [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. That would be my vote of the three (I also like pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]).
I absolutely [name_f]Adore[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (thee a) violet. It’s not harsh matches well and just appeals to me. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] u make ur mind up soon
I like [name_f]Junia[/name_f] the best of your options. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is nice, and I also like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I, personally, have met one baby named [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and I immediately wondered if her parents were big fans of GP. I think the association would be diluted if I met more Gwyneths.
I like all of your choices! I think I like [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (thee-a) best! I know a little [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and as far as I know she doesn’t get many Paltrow associations so I think you’re pretty safe there. [name_f]Junia[/name_f] is neat, but I like the other two better!
We are still undecided but your thoughts have really helped. I am less hesitant about the Paltrow associate with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. And bobcat108, my husband is Welsh so we were hoping to honor that ancestry. If we do go with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], we would be open to any other suggestions for mn’s…just not sure [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is exactly right. We have a 2-syllable last name so think either a 1-syllable or 3-syllable mn would flow best. Would love more suggestions!
Thinking we are most likely to go with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] for first names at this point.
